Valorant developer Riot Games is finally redesigning Split, one of its most controversial maps, in the game’s latest update. The layout and composition of Split, which includes relatively fewer chokepoints and a number of dangerous corners, make it one of the more difficult maps for attackers to be successful in. Not only do attackers have a very limited amount of options when clearing the map on their way to either of the bomb sites but it’s also difficult and risky to go about it.

It’s only been a little over a week since Riot Games released the latest major patch for its popular first-person shooter. The game’s 2.0 patch, which is also referred to as Episode 2 Act 1, not only introduced adjustments to a couple of the game’s “Controller” characters, namely Brimstone and Omen, but also updates to the game’s basic weapon, the Classic, and its competitive mode. The biggest update introduced with Episode 2 though is Valorant’s latest Agent, a new duelist named Yoru, who was announced a few days before Episode 2’s release.

Riot Games detailed the changes to Split in its latest blog post as part of the game’s 2.01 patch. According to the patch notes, the major changes to Split are focused on making things easier for attackers, which include increasing options for them, reducing the number of “50/50 checks” around the map, and more. Some examples of the changes include increasing the size or width of some of the map’s doorways or passages, reducing the depth of certain corners, adjusting or introducing angled walls, and more.

Despite only being a relatively minor update, Patch 2.01 features several other notable changes as well. Firstly, the patch continues the developer’s series of adjustments to the game’s Controllers, adjusting the duration of Jett’s smokescreen quite significantly. The patch is also giving players the option to hide custom game results from their profile’s match history, a change primarily targeted towards pros and competitive players, as well as the removal of the ‘Add Friend’ button for opponents as well as streamers who have their privacy mode activated. Players who regularly experience connectivity issues won’t have to worry about penalties as much as the patch also introduces AFK forgiveness for a limited number of rounds.

The Split rework is undoubtedly one of the game’s most anticipated updates and will make playing the map a lot more fun, especially for attackers. Apart from character and weapon balance, map balance is one of the most important elements of a competitive shooter and it’s great that Riot Games has finally dealt with one of Valorant’s more infamous ones.
