The Cooler Master CK721 is a fantastic 65% hybrid mechanical keyboard that offers a ton of customizable features. From its hybrid connection design to its included wrist rest, the CK721 is designed to fit its user’s needs, regardless of their environment. However, it falls short in its ability to smoothly adapt to different operating systems. While the CK721 is a great option for those looking for a new keyboard, those that use systems like MacOS and the programs that the system provides may find it to be a bit frustrating and inconsistent.

Cooler Master has recently been putting out some impressive products, such as the MM730 gaming mouse, and the CK721 is no different. Right off the bat, users will notice the weight of the keyboard, which comes in at a satisfying 1.68 LBS (.76 kg). This is due in part to all the features packed into this small package, the most prominent being the customizable 3-way dial. Thankfully, the weight is not nearly enough to affect the CK721’s portability and actually helps keep it stable and secure when typing.

Typing feels good overall, but it is at its best when using the wrist rest and that can easily be a significant annoyance for someone that likes to be more mobile. In its standard position, the CK721 is 1.46 in. (37 mm.) and the two-step keyboard feet only raise that height. Cooler Master includes a foam wrist rest with this keyboard which significantly helps ease wrist strain, but the need for this is a double-edged sword. Without the wrist rest, the CK721 rests at a harsh angle and users won’t be able to type for too long before having to take a break. So, while it’s great that Cooler Master includes a wrist rest, users that work in various environments will have to remember to pack the wrist rest whenever they go out.

The keys themselves feel smooth and have a medium travel distance. The Ck721 uses TTC Mechanical Switches and customers have the choice of Red, Blue, or Brown switches – in this case, this keyboard came with Brown switches which produce a softer “thock” sound. To further help users tailor the CK721 to their personality, it has customizable LED options that can be changed on the fly or be assigned to one of the four available keyboard profiles. As the name implies, these profiles can be customized in multiple ways, such as which profile is connected to which operating system.

One of the issues with the CK721 is its consistency with different operating systems. The main issues arose when using MacOS and, more specifically, in Apple native programs like Logic Pro X. The “option” key was unresponsive for about a day, and then was unresponsive in Logic for a following two days despite multiple resets only to suddenly start working. While it seems to not be a permanent issue, it’s an annoying one that buyers should be aware of. On the other side, the Ck721’s Bluetooth 5.1 support made it so connection was always stable and that there were no issues when switching between devices.

Overall, the Cooler Master CK721 is a great keyboard for a workstation and for mobile use. Thanks to its sturdy build, long battery, hybrid connection, and small frame, it’s a keyboard that travels will and can be tossed in a bag or luggage without fear of damage. While it boasts universal compatibility with Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS, there may be some issues that arise, but they seem to be easily resolvable. Even with that caveat, the CK721 is a reliable workhorse and a solid choice for those looking to invest in a new keyboard.

The Cooler Master CK721 keyboard is available to purchase now on Cooler Master’s website and Amazon. Screen Rant was provided with a Ck721 review unit for the purpose of this review.
