The upcoming farming simulation game Coral Island has announced further development plans, including a tentative Steam release window and new updates for Alpha gameplay. Coral Island is an indie simulation game that celebrates unique island culture, exploration, and community as players build a farmstead and get to know local townsfolk. Similar to Stardew Valley and Rune Factory 5Coral Island will offer light combat alongside farming, while also allowing players to build relationships, get married, and start families.

Coral Island, which is in development by the indie company Stairway Games, has been in progress since 2019. Content includes a large cast of romanceable and non-romanceable characters, bright and colorful designs, and 2D character portraits that stand out among the numerous pixelated farming simulation games, like Littlewood and Stardew Valley. Players will be able to fully customize their character, and the game will include LGBTQA+ romance and avatar options, offering a gameplay experience that will be inclusive and welcoming for any player.

According to a dev log shared by StairwayGames, Coral Island is estimated for PC release via Steam sometime during 2022. The Alpha v0.08 will launch on May 9 at 11:59 PM PDT, giving those with Alpha access the chance to try out new features. Coral Island, which was originally backed on Kickstarter in 2021, has currently raised over 1.6 million dollars to go towards development. According to the Coral Island Kickstarter roadmap, this well overshot the original goal of 70,000 and will allow Stairway Games to add large quantities of additional content to the game. This includes potential home console and Nintendo Switch ports for Coral Island, though a timeframe for those releases has not been mentioned by the developer.

Coral Island Will Release On Steam In 2022

While the tropical paradises of Coral Island and Animal Crossing: New Horizons are similar, the responsibilities players will have when the game releases are bigger than building a thriving town. Instead, players will need to dive under the ocean with a “Vaquatic” to clean up the trash that is destroying the reefs. This will give players a chance to learn about the importance of ocean ecosystems while also keeping their farms. The unique twist includes the chance to meet and befriend Merfolk who make their homes in the waters surrounding the island. The fun fantasy elements will likely appeal to fans of Rune Factory games, as well as those who enjoyed the magic in Stardew Valley.

While there is currently no confirmed release date for the full version of Coral Island, it is possible an Early Access option could become available soon. Development updates have shown several different Alpha versions have already been released, and it’s known that Coral Island‘s Early Access version remains a part of the outline for the game’s Kickstarter roadmap. Because of this, there is a chance players will be able to start exploring Coral Island in the near future, opening up new opportunities for fans of the farming simulation genre.
