Core is one of the latest mass multiplayer games to enter early access, meaning players can play the game before it is released to help test bugs and give the developers feedback. Manticore Games, Core’s creators, are a team of individuals that have experience working for a multitude of industry titans that want to bring the power of creation into the hands of the players on Epic Games.

While Manticore Games created several of the game modes playable in Core, many of them are made by Epic Games’ player base. By providing them with the tools to make their own worlds, players have access to a near-endless supply of user-generated games that span every genre. Here’s a list of some of the most enjoyable games that are available to play while Core is still in early access.

Core’s Best Early Access Games

PROP HUNT The ApoCoreLypse

  • Manticore Games have brought this Garry’s Mod classic to their ever-expanding world. In this iconic spin on hide and seek, one-half of the players become the hiders that disguise themselves as props. The other half are the hunters, who are tasked with hunting down the hiders that have camouflaged as barrels, refrigerators, or who knows what. This familiar game mode is perfect for Core beginners who want to grow accustomed to the game’s control schematics and hardware settings.

Mergelandia

  • This clever strategy game was also developed by Manticore Games. Players are given a top-down perspective of a grid-based world, Mergelandia, where they must drag 3 or more of the same objects together to create new structures. It starts off relatively simple, dragging acorns to make trees that produce wood. But it gets more challenging as the tutorial missions progress, introducing new mechanics like farms and soldiers. There are currently 2 base levels to play through and a level editor for players to mess around with, providing them a glimpse at what Core is capable of.

Minigolf

  • Core user DIVided brings players a fun take on minigolf. Drag the mouse back to swing the golf putt away, then release it to knock the ball toward the goal. It’s very simple and easy to grasp for new players. However, what makes this game mode stand out, is that all the participants play at once; there’s no waiting to take turns in this game of golf. To add a sense of urgency, whenever a player knocks their ball out of bounds, a timer is added that ends each hole once it reaches zero.

Arsenal of Guns

  • Created by the user WhamBros, Arensal of Guns is a functional arena shooter that’s easy to pick up and play. The goal is simple: get 20 total kills against other players to win the round. Once the match starts, the player is equipped with a random weapon that changes after every death. Opponents can appear from any angle, with any weapon, so this game mode is sure to keep FPS players on their toes.

Tumbleweed Typo Hunters

  • As of Core’s early access, andyman404’s Tumbleweed Typo Hunters is one of the most creative games available to play. Set in an old-West setting where all the buildings and people are made from words, there are several “misspelled outlaws” roaming about in each mission. The players and their companions are bounty hunters tasked with determining which words are misspelled, then killing them with their gun. While each outlaw can be taken down in several shots, they can be insta-killed if players manage to type the correct spelling into the chat, as if loading up a bullet, and then firing at the target. A perfect game to test one’s spelling and typing skills.

Core is available for early access on PC.
