Fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons are finding some creative uses for the Super Mario crossover items available through the Nook Shopping app and Nook Stop kiosk in the Resident Services building. The crossover is in honor of the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. and adds more than 30 new furniture and clothing items for players to adorn their Animal Crossing islands (and player characters) with.

Many fans are already recreating popular Mario levels in New Horizons with the help of items such as the Mushroom Mural wallpaper, Yoshi’s Egg Rug, Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, Coins, and more. Players are also having a fun time cosplaying as Mario favorites, like Princess Peach, Luigi, Wario, and the eponymous series mascot himself.

Two of the most popular pieces of Mario furniture seem to be the Block and Warp Pipes. The brick Blocks not only float in the air but can serve as shelves for players to place smaller furniture items like lamps and decorative plants upon. Animal Crossing‘s Warp Pipes allow players to quickly teleport between different areas on the island. Even players who aren’t necessarily going for a Mario-inspired aesthetic have found clever ways to implement these items, both outdoors on their islands and in their New Horizons homes.

Animal Crossing’s Mario Item Uses: Tiny Floating Town

Twitter user no problemmy cleverly used the Blocks as a platform to support a tiny town above an already innovative ocean-themed room. Some decorative items resemble miniature props, such as the Throwback Containers, which no problemmy used as a small tram. This room makes great use of seasonal items, too, such as the Tree’s Bounty Lamp and Pine Bonsai Tree, which are both obtainable during fall. Players can receive Mom’s Pen Stand – which also resembles a house – in the mail from her during the summer, and the Dollhouse is available in December to celebrate Animal Crossing‘s Toy Day.

Animal Crossing’s Mario Item Uses: Brick Interior Design

Combining wood and brick can give a room a rustic charm, as seen in this interior design idea from Twitter user Lottie. The Mario Bricks are put to good use, not only as shelves but also as an unconventional staircase. Although there is a lot of furniture here, the neat placement has a spacious yet cozy feel. This chill room would make an ideal hangout area for a band to practice or relax, with its Portable Record Player, Acoustic Guitar, Drum Set, and K.K. Slider albums hanging on the wall.

Animal Crossing’s Mario Item Uses: Rainbow Road Room

With so many Mario items now available in New Horizons, players can easily recreate popular Mario stages. However, that’s not to say this colorful masterpiece from jim.crossing doesn’t look like it took quite a lot of time and effort, intricate as it is. The popular yet challenging Rainbow Road track from the Mario Kart series is the final course for the Special Cup in each of the Mario racing games, and the inspiration taken from it looks absolutely amazing in this Animal Crossinroom.

Animal Crossing’s Mario Item Uses: Mushroom Platform Fairy Forest

Reddit user bunnyshy utilized the Animal Crossing Mushroom Platforms in a fairytale forest area, showing just how versatile some Mario items can be. There are large and small Mushroom Platform variants available with the Mario promotion, and they are both customizable to fit a variety of tastes. They can fit in well with any forest area, especially during the autumn season, or in a “cottagecore” or “fairycore” aesthetic, as seen here.

Animal Crossing’s Mario Item Uses: Subway Warp Pipes

Why not take the teleporting Mario Warp Pipes to a new level by creating a subway line around them? That’s exactly what Reddit user Chikachuuu did, transforming a once unspoiled island into an urban district complete with its own metro system. Other fans have used the Warp Pipes to access secret Animal Crossing areas, and this is a great idea for those who don’t particularly love the pipes’ clunky green design.

Animal Crossing’s Mario Item Uses: Kitchen Storage

Similar to the brick interior design seen above, this kitchen from Twitter user shay puts the Mario Blocks to great use. It’s a little surprising that Animal Crossing: New Horizons doesn’t contain any wall shelf furniture players can actually put small items on, but the Block makes a great substitute for now. It’s a wonderful way to add more decoration to a limited space.
