Warning: Major SPOILERS ahead for “Crisis On Infinite Earths – Part 2”

Part 2 of “Crisis on Infinite Earths” just resurrected Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who was killed off in the first hour of the Arrowverse crossover. The Arrowverse has been building toward Oliver’s demise since season 7 of Arrow, and all of it was expected to come to fruition in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” — but no one expected it to happen in the first episode. Oliver’s death was confirmed, but its immediately being undone.

In the first part of the crossover, Oliver was angry with the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) when he discovered that Barry (Grant Gustin) still had to die, despite their deal in “Elseworlds”. Afterward, Oliver and a handful of Arrowverse heroes had to team up to battle the Anti-Monitor’s shadow demons on Earth-38. When it was time to retreat and let the shadow demons win, Oliver refused. Oliver’s decision cost him his life, but also saved a billion people from Earth-38. Oliver was mourned by the other heroes in the battle, and it was revealed that Oliver’s death is not the one that was foreseen by the Monitor.

In the Batwoman episode of “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, Mia (Kat MacNamara) and Barry are determined to do whatever it takes to save Oliver. After procuring the help of Sarah Lance (Caity Lotz) and Constantine (Matt Ryan), they search for a functioning Lazarus Pit that can be used to revive dead people. After finding one on Earth-18, Oliver is resurrected. They face a setback when Constantine is unable to restore Oliver’s soul, due to a loss of his magical “mojo“. Oliver’s fate is currently up in the air.

On Arrow, the Lazarus Pits are mystical pools of waters that can restore a person’s health, or even bring them back to life, albeit with a steep cost. The Lazarus Pits are traditionally used by people like Ra’s al Ghul, who need them for the sake of their longevity. The Lazarus Pits have been used to save both Thea and Sarah. If a dead person is brought back with the Lazarus Pit, then Constantine’s magic has to be used so that their soul can be returned to them.

Bad experiences with the Lazarus Pit have taught Oliver and Team Arrow the dangers of dealing with them, so Oliver is unlikely be pleased if and when they succeed in completing the resurrection process during Crisis on Infinite Earths. Until then, Oliver will remain a mindless killer with no control over his actions. It’s possible that the heroes will find some other way to get Oliver back in the remainder of the Arrowverse crossover, but it may not be permanent.
