Fiona Dourif is returning to the Child’s Play universe in the upcoming TV show Chucky. Aside from being the daughter of Brad Dourif, the voice of Chucky, Fiona Dourif has played a crucial role in the last two films from director Don Mancini. Curse of Chucky was originally thought to be a reboot of the Child’s Play franchise but ended up being a sequel focusing on a new character, Nica Pierce. Nica was framed for the murder of her family by Chucky at the end of her first film, and by the end of Cult of Chucky, Chucky managed to transfer his soul into her.

In early 2018, before the Child’s Play reboot was announced, Mancini confirmed that he was making the first Child’s Play TV series. Updates on Chucky have been scarce, partially due to the filming being delayed by COVID-19. Brad Dourif is unsurprisingly returning to voice Chucky for the eighth time, and there have also been some exciting casting announcements in the past year. Jennifer Tilly, who played Chucky’s Bride Tiffany, is returning, and it was also recently announced that Final Destination star Devon Sawa had been added to the cast. Mancini had previously teased that some familiar faces could show up in Chucky, and now one of them has been confirmed.

According to EW, Dourif has been added to the cast of Chucky; she will be reprising her role as Nica. It has not been confirmed how many episodes she will appear in or how big of a role Nica will play in Chucky‘s story.

It was originally believed that Chucky would be a direct continuation of Cult of Chucky, but the first plot synopsis indicated otherwise. Even if Chucky doesn’t take place immediately after the events of the last film, Dourif’s casting all but confirms that the TV show will continue the previous movie’s story. This also opens the door for other characters from Cult of Chucky to return. Cult of Chucky was praised for bringing Alex Vincent back as Andy Barclay, so his story likely isn’t finished. Likewise, Kyle, from Child’s Play 2, made an appearance in the post-credits scene of Cult of Chucky, so fans should expect her to pop up at some point as well.

Chucky might not be a guaranteed hit for USA and Syfy, but getting Dourif to return as Nica is another step in the right direction. Curse of Chucky was considered a return to form for the Child’s Play franchise, despite it being a direct-to-video release, and Dourif was no doubt part of the reason why the last two films succeeded. Audiences have become invested in her storyline, especially since the last film ended on a cliffhanger with Tiffany and a possessed Nica driving off together. Now that the cast is locked in place, hopefully Mancini can start production on Chucky sooner rather than later.
