Cyberpunk 2077had a rocky launch riddled with bugs and glitches, but some players are optimistic that these will improve when CD Projekt Red releases an upgrade for next-generation consoles in 2021. For now, Cyberpunk 2077 is backwards compatible with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S. Like on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, some players might experience problems with the game’s frame rate on PlayStation 5, especially while they are driving through Night City or fighting. This stuttering and lagging can make it difficult for players to get the full experience of Cyberpunk 2077‘s fancy graphics.

There are a few ways players can increase framerate on PlayStation 5 to get Cyberpunk 2077 running smoothly, though the performance boost will come at the cost of some visual fidelity. Unlike on the PC version, the graphics settings on console are much less extensive, and there are only five options for players to mess with rather than the 20 or so options available for PC players. Still, changing these game settings along with a PlayStation 5 setting can help boost performance and get players closer to a consistent, playable frame rate, usually around 30 or 60 FPS depending on the console. Here’s how to improve frame rate for Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5.

How to Increase Framerate for Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5

When deciding how to configure settings for Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5, players are going to want to make a decision about prioritizing either performance or resolution. Performance mode should allow most games to run at 60 FPS, with some games able to be experienced at 4K or 120 FPS. However, this lowers the graphics quality somewhat. Players can prioritize the look of the game in Resolution/Quality mode, but the FPS will usually cap around 30 FPS. As a trade off, this usually keeps ray tracing and other fancier graphics options turned on.

For the current issues plaguing Cyberpunk 2077, players are advised to start with Performance mode to improve FPS. Though this will sacrifice some of the game’s fancier graphics, until the next-gen console upgrade arrives, and until CD Projekt Red is able to address some of the visual bugs, players can still enjoy the experience of traveling around Night City without the extra stuttering and lag.

To change to Performance mode, players should enter the PlayStation Settings menu via the gear icon in the top right of the home screen. They need to navigate to Saved Data and Game/App Settings. They will need to select Game Presets.

In the Game Presets menu, players should elect the second item on the list, which will ask them to choose between Performance Mode, Resolution/Quality Mode, or Game Default. Players should select Performance Mode. This tells the console to prioritize performance over image quality, which leads to the higher frame rate.

Players can also change the few integrated graphics settings once the game has launched. These correspond to cinematic effects that, while nice to look at, are not necessary for a game and can take up much of a console’s performance. Details like Motion Blur and Film Grain can create interesting effects, but losing them will not affect the quality of the graphics or the immersion of gameplay. These can be dropped without a noticeable penalty.

Players should launch Cyberpunk 2077 and open Settings. They will need to navigate to the Graphics tab. They should then click Off to disable all the following options:

• Depth of Field
• Lens Flare
• Motion Blur

Players should notice this helps prevent their game from stuttering and their FPS from dropping as much or as often. If the game starts to look really bad, particularly in Night City at night, players can turn Lens Flare and Chromatic Aberration back on, at the cost of some performance.
