A Cyberpunk 2077 leak claims that a big patch, new title, and a soft relaunch of the game is inbound, as CD Projekt Red prepares for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S update. It’s been over a year since Cyberpunk 2077’s controversial launch, which left a plethora of game-breaking bugs and glitches in Night City despite year-long delays from the game’s developer. The disastrous launch has arguably gone down as one of the worst in recent video game history, but despite this, Cyberpunk 2077 is Steam’s most-played game of 2021.

Cyberpunk 2077 still has fans divided despite its fair share of success. One of the most notable launch disappointments was its poor quality on consoles, which led to a class-action lawsuit against CDPR as investors claimed the developer falsely advertised the game’s console performance. Sony removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store for six months, while refunds were distributed to players who had already purchased the game. The game’s poor console quality has been slowly improved, though many fans are anxiously awaiting the current-gen update for the game. In CD Projekt Red’s Q3 2021 financial report, company executives stated Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrade will release in Q1 2022.

As shared to Reddit by user kaniq, an unverified 4chan leak claims Cyberpunk 2077’s update will be “treated as a soft relaunch for the game.” According to the information, CDPR will reveal a new game title – Cyberpunk 2077: Samurai Edition – during a livestream in February, alongside the reveal of the Cyberpunk anime and the game’s first big expansion. Cyberpunk 2077: Samurai Edition will reportedly add new features to the game, like “barbershops, a garage, improved AI, transmog system, a complete rebalancing of the loot system, [and] new UI.” CDPR’s previously-promised DLC will reportedly be bundled together and is said to include new weapons, apartment customization, and new gigs.

The leak also claims that Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming DLC will take place in Pacifica, and will involve doing quests in what is called “the combat zone,” which is being “fought over by two new gangs.” The Bozos, or “violent clown psychopaths with a sick sense of humor,” are up against the Slaughterhouse gang, a group of “violent psychopath fascists.” It was also claimed that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive its own in-game mini-game like The Witcher 3’s Gwent card game. At the time of the update’s unveiling, CDPR will also reportedly reveal the cyberpunk anime called Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners, which is reportedly made by Studio Trigger with writing and story by CD Projekt Red.

In October, Cyberpunk 2077’s post-launch roadmap was altered, delaying all free DLC and other major patches until Q1 of 2022, despite expectations that the updates would arrive in the latter half of 2021. This, however, does correlate with the Cyberpunk 2077 leak, since it’s claimed CDPR’s livestream reveal for Cyberpunk 2077: Samurai Edition will arrive in February.

As with all unverified leaks and rumors, fans are advised to take the report with a grain of salt until confirmed by CD Projekt Red and the Cyberpunk team. Cyberpunk 2077’s launch and subsequent updates have disappointed fans before, and while the new content sounds promising, its legitimacy has yet to be denied or confirmed. A soft reboot could be what Cyberpunk 2077 needs, though its future is anyone’s guess.
