Daisy is ‘Incredibly Powerful’ in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4

The wait is officially over. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns tonight on ABC for its fourth season. Anticipation is high for the upcoming season after several tantalizing announcements regarding plot details, casting news, and where we will find some of our favorite returning characters. Perhaps the biggest news for this season is the introduction of the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider (played by Gabriel Luna). More exciting news involves the introduction of a new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. (played by Jason O’Mara), and how that will play with the returning team members.

Outside of Ghost Rider, though, the most intriguing development for this season is probably where we will find the show’s returning characters. As previously noted, Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) will no longer be Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., so it will be interesting to see what his interactions are like with Jason O’Mara’s character. But the returning character in the newest territory is Daisy “Quake” Johnson (Chloe Bennet). After spending some of last season under the control of Hive, and then having to deal with the death of Lincoln, we last saw Daisy on the run during season 3’s time jump. While brief, that jump did show that Daisy has some pretty incredible leaping powers, and that might not be all.

Chloe Bennet recently spoke with CBR at the at the Television Critics’ Association fall press tour, where she discussed, among other things, Daisy’s growing powers in season 4. Bennet was asked whether Daisy now has the ability to fly, and she responded, “She can definitely, like, jump for long periods of time.” When pressed further on Daisy’s powers, Bennet elaborated:

“She’s incredibly powerful. I think her power, since you’ve seen her in season two, to now she’s grown so much power-wise and just skill-wise between fighting and arms and her powers. But you’ll see the toll of being on her own and being rogue being taken on her, because S.H.I.E.L.D. regulates these Inhumans and their powers for a reason, and you’ll see that.”

Since gaining her abilities in season 2, Daisy (once Skye) has already displayed tremendous power. While under the control of Hive, she basically leveled the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. base, and we also saw her decimate Gideon Malick. Throw in the sight of her jumping a building, and we already know that she is one of the most powerful Inhumans we have encountered on the show thus far. It’ll be interesting to see what else she can do now (outside of the high jump), and under what circumstances she uses her power now that she is rogue – and what position that puts S.H.I.E.L.D in.

There is no shortage of reasons to be excited for tonight’s premier of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While the series faced its fair share of criticism in season 1, there has been exponential improvement since then, and fans that have stuck with the show have been rewarded. Now, with Ghost Rider joining the fold, Daisy going Rogue, a new Director being introduced, and news of the first Life Model Decoy, season 4 is looking like one hell of a ride.
