Dancing With Myself: Nick Jonas Replacing Shaq As Dance Creator

A recent announcement about NBC’s new dance competition show, Dancing With Myself, declared actress Liza Koshy and former American professional basketball player Shaquille O’Neal as dance creators, but Nick Jonas is now set to replace O’Neal. Dancer, singer and songwriter Shakira is the show’s main judge, and she was the inspiration behind the show due to her viral “Girl Like Me” dance challenge in 2020. The show will be different from NBC’s recently canceled World Of Dance, as Dancing With Myself will have its contestants compete in a series of challenges that will be created by the show’s dance creators. The contestants will be placed in isolated pods and will be given a specific time to learn the dance and perform in front of a live audience. At the end of the episode, the audience will decide who the best dancer is, and that person will be awarded a cash prize.

On March 15, Shakira posted a video announcement on her official Twitter page where she shared that Koshy and O’Neal would be accompanying her on the show. In addition to this, Shakira also mentioned that American model and film actress Camille Kostek would be hosting the show. The announcement received positive comments from Shakira’s fans, and a few fans even mentioned that they were happy to see the “Shak” and “Shaq” pair working together.

Shaquille O’Neal’s time with the show did not last long as it was announced that Jonas will replace the former basketball player as a dance creator just six days after the initial announcement was made. O’Neal was seemingly excited for the show after it was announced he would be serving as a dance creator. According to Deadline, the show’s rehearsal period has been experiencing some technical difficulties, which delayed production. Additionally, the show also experienced some issues with the intricate stage design. Because of the delayed production, O’Neal left the show. He retweeted the mentioned article but did not make any comments. There have been no announcements from the production crew that detail why the Jonas brother was chosen or why the production issues caused O’Neal to be replaced as a dance creator.

The stars that will serve as dance creators on the show have not said anything about O’Neal’s departure or Jonas’ addition to the cast. Despite the lack of information on why the Jonas brother was chosen for Dancing With Myself, he has been performing since he was 7 on Broadway and in big arenas as a singer, and he also has experience as a coach on The Voice. This track record makes him a perfect candidate to replace O’Neal, who does most of his dancing on TikTok. Jonas’ fans shared different comments about him being added to the show.
