Dancing With The Stars has introduced many different styles of dances to the fans over the years, and Contemporary dance has become a staple on the show. Contemporary was first introduced on DWTS season 10, which aired in the spring of 2010. The dance was performed by contestant Erin Andrews and her partner, Maksim “Maks” Chmerkovskiy. It was their freestyle dance during the finals. Contemporary returned to the show in season 15. Then, this style of dance was introduced as a regular style on DWTS season 16 and has remained a staple on the show ever since.

Throughout the many seasons of Dancing With The Stars, many contemporary dances have been performed on the ballroom floor. However, there are definitely certain performances that the fans haven’t been able to forget. This is not to fault any of the couples who have danced contemporary on DWTS, but some of the routines mentioned below just have a very unique and memorable quality to them.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Willow Shields and Mark Ballas (Season 20)

On DWTS season 20, Willow Shields danced a contemporary routine during Most Memorable Year Night. Willow, who was only 14 years old at the time, decided that she wanted to pay tribute to being cast in The Hunger Games. This contemporary dance left the judges and audience members wowed due to the emotional and powerful routine. In the end, that dance earned them a near-perfect score from the judges. Three weeks later, however, the pair was eliminated in seventh place, leaving the judges shocked and Willow visibly upset.

Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough (Season 21)

During week four of Dancing With The Stars season 21, which was dubbed Most Memorable Year Night, Bindi Irwin danced a contemporary routine to honor the memory of her father, the late Steve Irwin. Given that Bindi was only 17 years old when she competed on DWTS in 2015, this dance left everyone in the room in tears. This dance was performed with so much passion and was so powerful that it even left Bindi in tears by the end of the routine. Bindi later went on to win the competition, beating Nick Carter and his partner Sharna Burgess at the finale.

Milo Manheim and Witney Carson (Season 27)

One of the most unusual contemporary dances that have ever been performed on DWTS came from Milo Manheim and his partner Witney Carson. The pair danced a haunting routine during week six of the competition, which also happened to be Halloween Night. The fans watching this got chills, and the judges awarded the couple with a perfect score. Milo and Witney went on to make it to the finale, but finished as the runners-up behind Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess.

It took 16 seasons for Contemporary to become a regular style of dance on the show. However, it doesn’t seem like this style of dance will be leaving the Dancing With The Stars ballroom floor anytime soon.
