Bridgerton star, Phoebe Dynevor has revealed that Daphne has a newfound confidence and is “the rock of the siblings” in the upcoming second season of the hit Netflix show. Having had one of the most successful streaming releases of all time, Bridgerton will return to screens next month, after enchanting fans with the release of its first season back in 2020. While season one focused on Daphne (played by Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family, as she sought to find a husband in the marriage market of a Regency-era London, season two will focus on the eldest Bridgerton brother, Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) as he attempts to trade in his bachelor ways for a more settled, married life.

While having introduced audiences to the Bridgerton family as a whole, alongside a number of other prominent families within their upper-class circle, the first season’s focus was largely on Daphne’s growth as a person and how her perception of love and marriage shifted as she became a woman. All taking place under the watchful eye of Lady Whistledown, the town gossip who anonymously publishes a paper that details the intimate secrets of many of The Ton’s residents, Daphne’s story ultimately saw her marry the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (played Regé-Jean Page) after their intense on-and-off-again love affair concluded with the couple welcoming their new son into the world in the final moments of season one. The announcement that Page would not be returning as the Duke in Bridgerton season 2 devastated viewers, however many were delighted to hear that Daphne’s story would continue on, and now Dynevor has teased what fans can expect from her character in the upcoming episodes.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Dynevor spoke about Daphne’s role in Bridgerton season 2, given that the show’s focus will now shift onto her eldest brother as he endeavors to find love. The star divulged that fans will see Daphne boast a “real confidence and womanhood” now that she has settled into her new life as a wife and mother, sharing that she has become “the adult of the family.” Dynevor also revealed that the series will see Daphne attempt to pass on what she has learned to her older brother, Anthony. Check out Dynevor’s full quote below.

Daphne has become the adult of the family. She’s found what she’s looking for — she’s had a baby, she’s a wife and mother. There’s a real confidence and womanhood about her this season. She’s running the family because she’s the one who’s settled now. She is the rock of the siblings in this season, which is quite nice to play. Daphne’s leading the way in terms of knowing what love is, what it means, and what marriage means, and she’s trying to pass on that knowledge to Anthony.

Dynevor went on to say that her character is good at acknowledging people’s “blind spots” and that Daphne will ultimately use this to aid her brother in his search for love. The Colour Room star also revealed that Daphne is “a lot looser” in this series and that audiences will get to see her “let her hair down a bit“. Dynevor is among the majority of the show’s stars that will return for Bridgerton season 2, which also welcomes newcomers Simone Ashley and Charithra Chandran as the Sharma sisters, Kate and Edwina, who pique Anthony Bridgerton’s interest.

News that Page would not be returning as the charming Duke was certainly a blow for many, however, it’s exciting to hear that Dynevor will still have a vital role to play in the upcoming season and that at least one half of this beloved onscreen couple will make an appearance. As for how Daphne has grown as a person since becoming a mother and settling down, it will be interesting to see her approach to her brother’s marital ventures and whether or not she will ultimately impact the outcome of his decisions. As for now, there isn’t long to go until audiences can return to The Ton, as Bridgerton season 2 begins streaming on March 25.
