Warning! Spoilers ahead for Daredevil #31

In the latest issue of Marvel’s Daredevil, a crazed and seemingly insane Bullseye has escaped the captivity of the Kingpin, and he’s now planning the darkest and most ridiculous killing spree in the Marvel Universe. While Mayor Wilson Fisk had hoped to experiment on the expert marksman until he became perfectly obedient to Fisk’s every whim, that doesn’t appear to have worked out now that Bullseye has broken free, seemingly seeing angels that are encouraging him to kill everyone and everything he sees.

In prior issues of Daredevil, Matt Murdock has been serving his sentence in jail for involuntary manslaughter while Elektra Natchios has taken over as the new Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, offering her own unique and much more brutal brand of justice to the streets. However, it doesn’t seem like either vigilante will be prepared for the altered Bullseye that will undoubtedly set his sights on them very soon. Apparently, Fisk had the classic villain held captive with a team of scientists, and it looked as though they were trying to turn him into his own personal version of the Winter Soldier, making him programable and easy to control. However, the exact opposite has happened, and Bullseye is now roaming free after killing all of Fisk’s personnel at his secret facility.

Now, Daredevil #31 – from Chip Zdarsky and Mike Hawthorne – finds Bullseye killing the heirs to the Westmiller gun fortune, seeing as how a Westmiller gun and its poor craftsmanship caused him to miss a target once. He also shares this hatred for Daredevil, who’s made him miss as well. However, despite his head hurting and his crazed state, he still believes himself to be the world’s greatest assassin when an angel appears before him and encourages him to kill everyone to prove it. As a result, the issue’s end sees Bullseye fully armed, firing down upon the people of Manhattan while counting down the entire city’s population one by one.

Clearly, Bullseye is incredibly messed up in the head, though it’s unclear if the angel he saw was a figment of his twisted mind and imagination or some sort of actual otherworldly entity taking advantage of Bullseye’s crazed state. Either war, it doesn’t bode well for all of the innocent victims he’s going to kill. While Bullseye can’t possibly succeed in killing all of Manhattan, the very fact that he’s trying is hugely concerning as it means he’s not going to stop unless someone stops him first.

While the new Daredevil will most likely be the one to go after Bullseye and take him down, one has to wonder if this unhinged version will require two Dardevils. Perhaps it’s time for Matt Murdock to finally get out of prison and protect his city once more? In any case, Bullseye is absolutely the next big threat for Marvel’s Daredevil, and he could very well tie back to Mayor Fisk’s illicit activities as well. Here’s hoping one or both Daredevils can stop the classic foe and his latest death toll that’s only going to get higher and higher.
