As is the case in most roguelike games, Darkest Dungeon 2 players will pick up quite a bit of loot on their travels through the world. While a lot of it will be used to upgrade the heroes in their party, some of it won’t be better than what they already have. As a result, there will be some extra gear, and players may be left wondering whether it is worth keeping to sell later.

Selling items would be pretty useful in Darkest Dungeon 2, as there are many helpful items that can be purchased at inns to provide the team with buffs, lower Stress, or heal them up. Many games in the roguelike genre rely on a constant dance of buying and selling to keep players supplied with what they need. This gives them a reason to hold onto old gear, since it can be converted into useful aid items or maybe even better weapons later.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

While Darkest Dungeon 2 hasn’t typically relied as much on income, an extra way to make some of the currencies in the game would definitely be nice to have. In the first game, the Adventure Backpack inventory couldn’t be sold, but trinkets could be. Trinket selling would be useful, though it wouldn’t move the needle all that much at the end of the day, since the money made from trinkets in the first Darkest Dungeon was never that substantial.

How to Sell Items and Trinkets in Darkest Dungeon 2

Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way to sell any items or trinkets in Darkest Dungeon 2 so far. The only way to get rid of gear is simply to drop it, as was the case for most gear in the first installment of the franchise. While this means no money can be made from extra gear, it does come with the benefit of not having to worry about keeping gear that isn’t useful. This reduces the headaches of resource management and allows players to focus on the combat and adventuring aspects of the game.

This could change over time, as Darkest Dungeon 2 has just been released for early access. There is likely a lot more to Darkest Dungeon 2 that players haven’t gotten a chance to see, so it could be that the developers have a plan to add selling mechanics into the game or will do so as a result of fan feedback. As of now, though, merchants don’t seem to have any interest in purchasing items the heroes acquire during their travels and are only looking to take money from players. This may be disappointing to some players, but it isn’t too far from the mechanics of the original Darkest Dungeon game, so it isn’t exactly unexpected.

Darkest Dungeon is available in early access on PC.
