Warning: spoilers ahead for Infinite Frontier #6!

In Infinite Frontier #6, on sale now in print and digital, Darkseid unleashes his most expansive Omega Beam attack ever, making it clear that his new form comes with some ferocious upgrades. The final issue of the miniseries reaffirms Darkseid’s reputation as DC’s premier bad guy, and hints at larger, and darker, things to come.

Darkseid is the Lord of Apokolips and the absolute evil in the DC Universe. For many years, Darkseid chased the Anti-Life Equation, which he could use to strip individuals of their free will. In addition to a dominating physical presence, Darkseid has many powers as well, his Omega Beams prime among them. The Omega Beams are concentrated bursts of energy that Darkseid projects from his eyes; the Beams usually disintegrate their target, and can move through the air independently to track them. When Darkseid kills someone with his Omega Beams, he is able to reassemble them at will, and uses this as a method of torture: blasting someone with the Beams, subjecting them to intense pain and death, and then resurrecting them to do it again. Every past version of Darkseid was recently combined in his ultimate form, and in Infinite Frontier #6, he unleashes the ultimate Omega Beams. The issue is written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Xermanico, colors by Romulo Fajardo Jr and letters by Tom Napolitano.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On Earth-Omega, Darkseid has imprisoned the Flash, forcing him to run faster than ever. Darkseid hopes to make a crack in the wall of the multiverse, in an attempt to harness the power that lies beyond. Heroes from across the multiverse, including the Justice Society and Justice Incarnate, attack Darkseid. The Flash is freed from Darkseid’s control, and after killing DC’s Iron Man pastiche Machinehead, Darkseid decrees the battle over and unleashes black Omega Beams, which track and hit every singlehero on Earth-Omega in one shot. Rather than killing the heroes, Darkseid chooses to transport them back to their respective homes in the multiverse. Later, Darkseid reveals he did not kill them only because “the heroes of the multiverse will play a role in the coming wars.”

In Infinite Frontier #0, Darkseid returned in a new, ultimate form. No longer obsessed with the Anti-Life Equation, the new Darkseid seeks to crack the multiverse and control the Great Darkness as a weapon in an epic series of wars that will engulf all reality. Fans saw Darkseid slay the godlike Quintessence on his return, proving his Omega Beams’ power, but this moment communicates their reach and scope. The Beams hit every single target Darkseid sends them after; easily over thirty heroes and villains. Then, Darkseid is able to use the Beams to send the gnats that were pestering him to worlds all across the multiverse. The Justice Society and Justice Incarnate are lucky Darkseid has a use for their might, as otherwise it’s implied he’d have disintegrated them where they stood.

Darkseid has achieved a new and more powerful form, and in Infinite Frontier #6, he shows his iconic Omega Beams now lend him the godlike power he’ll need to remain a major player in the coming campaign to assert control over the DC multiverse.
