Warning! Spoilers for Justice League Incarnate #1 by DC Comics

Orion wants to know if his evil biological father, Darkseid bleeds, echoing one of the best (and most controversial) lines from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. In Justice League Incarnate #1 by DC Comics, Orion makes a surprise appearance to help the Justice League Incarnate fend off Darkseid. However, he suggests the best way to save the Multiverse is to make it bleed.

Orion has a complicated history with his birth father, Darkseid. In Jack Kirby’s New Gods, Darkseid famously traded his son to Highfather to usher in peace between the warring planets of New Genesis and Apokolips. As a result, Orion grew up in paradise, raised as Highfather’s own blood – despite secretly having the dastardly appearance of Darkseid. Meanwhile, Scott Free, who would become the great escape hero known as Mister Miracle, would be raised in the hellfires of Apokolips, featuring regular torture at the hands of Darkseid’s evil forces. Despite getting the better end of the deal, Orion has always been rage-filled and a loose canon, especially when confronting his real dad. Now, he’s ready to take on Darkseid once again.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In Justice League Incarnate #1, by Joshua Williamson, Dennis Culver, Brandon Peterson, Andrei Bressan, Tom Derenick, Hi-Fi, and Tom Napolitano, the Justice Incarnate deals with Darkseid’s attack on Earth-8. The supervillain breaks the neck of Tartarus – the universe’s parody of Thanos – and escapes in a Boom Tube to find another crack in the Multiverse in his quest to control all realities. Back at Justice League Incarnate headquarters, a different Boom Tube opens up as Orion with a massive canine arrives telling the team he’s their only hope defeating Darkseid. Orion demands full command of the JLI, telling them the only way to save the Multiverse, “is to make it bleed.”

Orion is pretty much taking a page out of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice by essentially asking Darkseid and the Multiverse, “…do you bleed? You will.” Unfortunately, Orion is followed by Apokolips army, as Kalibak and one of Darkseid’s other children, Grail, lead an army of Parademons heading straight for the Justice League Incarnate.

Orion demanding immediate respect and power is very on-brand for the character. Despite his heroic background, he’s still Darkseid’s son – and carries that anger with him. Echoing Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’s most famous (and controversial line) where Batman asks Superman if he bleeds is also in-character. Orion usually wins his greatest battles with force, not peace. He’s hoping by making the Multiverse bleed, Darkseid can be defeated. Justice League Incarnate #1 is in comic book stores now.
