Dave Bautista has confirmed reports that he and Jason Momoa are officially developing a buddy cop movie together. The two stars have become some of the biggest names in Hollywood over the last few years. Bautista has capitalized on his success coming out of the role of Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy and has since taken on roles in major films such as the James Bond outing SpectreBlade Runner 2049Dune, and the upcoming Knives Out sequel. Momoa, on the other hand, has found success following his appearance in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. The actor has redefined and popularized the character of Aquaman while also giving a standout performance in Dune.

Despite both appearing in Dune, the two have come to know each other mostly through their work on the second season of See on Apple TV+. They have apparently really enjoyed working together on the series, as back in August, Bautista took to social media to pitch a buddy cop film with the two of them in the lead roles. In the post, he said “Just going to throw this out into the atmosphere and see what happens. Here we go… Me and Momoa in a Lethal Weapon type buddy cop movie directed by David Leitch. Ok! There it is. Now we wait.” Momoa also expressed his excitement about such a project when asked about it on The Late Late Show with James Corden a few days later, and adding that they would like to potentially shoot the film in Hawaii.

Now, Bautista has once again taken to social media to confirm reports that the buddy cop film led by him and Momoa is actually happening. The actor’s post comes following reports that MGM is going to be developing the film with Bautista and Momoa after winning a bidding war between four interested studios. In his post, Bautista includes a screenshot of his initial tweet with the words “How It Started” alongside the new report with “How It’s Going” written over it. He also writes that he and Momoa are proud of how they managed to materialize the new film and that it came from “love, respect and a desire to work together again.” Check out his post on Instagram below:

According to the report from Deadline that Bautista mentioned above, Bautista and Momoa had been pitching the film to studios throughout Hollywood all week. Jonathan Tropper, who worked with the stars on See, is writing the film, and there is currently no word on if they’ll be able to convince Bautista’s choice director David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2) to join the project. The Dune and See co-stars will play brothers in the Lethal Weapon-inspired comedy, which will supposedly be shot on location in Hawaii in 2023.

Momoa is currently busy shooting Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, while Bautista is at work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and prepping for the recently confirmed Dune 2. The fact that they were willing to go out of their respective ways to make this project happen and fit it into their schedules is impressive. It’s hard not to be excited by the potential of this film, as the two giant men are incredibly endearing and charismatic stars that shine whenever they’re on screen. The idea that they’ll be riffing off one another in their own buddy cop film makes this something definitely worth looking forward to.
