David Harbour delivers a promising Stranger Things season 4 update at an NBA game, of all places. Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the wait for Stranger Things season 4 has stretched on for far, far longer than anyone predicted. Netflix’s hit paranormal show last dropped new episodes in July 2019 and left fans with a cliffhanger that revealed Harbour’s Jim Hopper is actually alive – but being held captive in a Russian prison camp. Since then, Netflix has done all it can to tease the forthcoming season of Stranger Things, but unforeseen obstacles have greatly impacted the show.

StrangerThings season 4 began production in early 2020, only to be swiftly shut down by the onset of the pandemic. Filming was able to pick back up a few months later, but it was moving at a noticeably slower pace than usual as the creative team navigated working during a global catastrophe. There was some hope among fans that Stranger Things would return by the end of 2021, but that wasn’t possible. Now it’s clear season 4 will premiere in 2022, but Netflix has yet to give any kind of date beyond that it will arrive this summer.

Fans are undoubtedly getting rather impatient as the wait drags on, but Harbour has an encouraging message for them. He and his Stranger Things co-star Noah Schnapp recently attended a New York Knicks game and were spotted on camera. Harbour then used his time in the spotlight to send a message on his phone: “ST4 is coming sooon, promise.”  Sadly, he didn’t have the definitive date, but we’ll take any reassurance we can get.

Harbour’s message is definitely helpful, since Netflix has been very quiet on the Stranger Things front as of late. The streamer revealed a Stranger Things season 4 trailer back in November, and it gave fans some major updates about where the new episodes will find those like Will (Schnapp) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Since then, though, there has been little news. It’s now been over two years since the last Stranger Things season premiered, making this the longest gap in the show’s history.

Still, as Harbour reminded everyone, season 4 is coming. It’s likely that Netflix is just waiting until closer to the summer to reveal more about Stranger Things, which isn’t an unusual practice for the streamer. Most likely, this spring will be filled with teases and trailers for the highly anticipated season. A date will probably arrive around that time too. Stranger Things fans just need to keep their spirits high and remain patient. Hopefully, all this waiting will be worth it in the end.
