A Gohan-Piccolo fusion will finally be possible in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. So far, the only canon fusions (between two Z-Warriors) in the anime are Gogeta, Vegito, and Gotenks. While Piccolo has permanently merged with other Namekians in the anime, neither he nor Gohan has experienced fusion in the traditional sense.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan and Piccolo will at long last take the spotlight away from Goku and Vegeta. The two are confirmed to be the central characters in a story that will see the Z-Warriors contend with Red Ribbon Army. Presumably because Goku and Vegeta are busy training on Beerus’ planet, it will be up to Gohan, Piccolo, and possibly others to foil the villains’ plans.  Scenes in the Super Hero trailer have showcased Gohan and Piccolo’s fights with their android creations, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. Since Dragon Ball Super greatly reduced Gohan and Piccolo’s roles in the anime, Super Hero’s focus on the two characters promises to be fundamentally different from what’s come before.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

One surprise that Super Hero can offer with its story is a Gohan-Piccolo fusion (which has only happened in the non-canon video game, Dragon Ball: Fusions). In the past, the pair using fusion wasn’t a scenario that made sense. In the Buu Saga, they were among the only living characters left during the fight with Super Buu, but fusing only would have impeded their efforts. For fusion to be effective, both characters have to be on a similar power level. Gohan was so far above Piccolo in those days that the Namekian just would have held him back. And even though Gohan is even stronger now, there’s a chance that the huge gap between them won’t exist in Super Hero. As proven by his performance in the Tournament of Power, Piccolo has made some massive gains in his training.

Gohan is definitely more powerful than Piccolo, but the latter’s ability to keep in pace with him during their fight with the Universe 6 Namekians suggests that he might not be that far behind anymore. Plus, the idea of Gohan and Piccolo being a duo in Super Hero is indicative of the two being somewhat close to each other in terms of their power level (not unlike the difference between Goku and Vegeta). If it’s true that Piccolo is almost as strong as Gohan, a fusion between the two could be on the table when they fight the Red Ribbon Army.

Fusion is one of the most powerful trump cards the Z-Warriors have at their disposal, and certainly a tool that Piccolo and Gohan can use. It’s important to note that Piccolo learned the fusion dance from Goku in Dragon Ball Z, which means he can teach it to Gohan if the need arises. If Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is hiding a secret third villain (or a fusion between the Red Ribbon Army’s Gamma 1 and Gamma 2), going in this direction just might become necessary. If so, the anime can introduce a brand new and totally unique design by fusing a half-Saiyan hero with a green-skinned alien.
