Warning! Spoilers ahead for Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour #4

A certain intimate act between Batman and Catwoman may have been declared off-limits for the DC Animated Universe, but one particular member of the Justice League isn’t letting that ruling dictate her sex life. The latest issue of Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour pokes fun at a controversial edict regarding superheroes and their activities behind closed doors, showing that superheroes can be giving partners.

Ever since Harley Quinn showrunner Justin Halpern revealed that a scene in which Batman performs oral sex on Catwoman was nixed by DC Comics, more attention has been given to the idea than ever before. Zack Snyder made headlines posting risqué fanart in response to the controversy, while Batman-connected celebrities such as Val Kilmer and Kevin Smith have given their two cents on the situation. Even the show’s official Twitter account has gotten a few good ribs in mocking the idea that Batman refuses to service his lovers.

Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: The Eat. Kill! Bang. Tour #4 by Tee Franklin and Max Sarin continues the streak of making light of the situation by showing how Justice League member Vixen pleases her partner. After Ivy backs out of her wedding to Kite Man, she and Harley have taken the plunge into trying a real relationship with one another and embarked on a road trip. But a rampaging Jim Gordon is in hot pursuit, ready to follow them to the ends of the earth. To minimize the impending chaos, Batman communicates with the animal-based hero Vixen. Villains aren’t ruining Vixen’s plans with her partner, though, and the two prepare for an intimate moment in a limousine. Requesting privacy from the driver, Vixen calls up the powers of a giraffe – particularly the tongue – and it’s not a subtle hint as to what’s about to occur.

DC Comics may be convinced that “heroes don’t do that,” but Vixen proves otherwise by being quite the generous partner. This inside joke towards the scandal is actually the series’ second reference to the controversy, which had previously been brought up much more directly by Catwoman in regard to Batman’s… lack of appreciation for cats.

Harley Quinn: The Animated Series has always been a more raunchy take on the DC Universe, one not afraid to push certain boundaries while remaining true to its beloved characters. The Eat! Bang! Kill. Tour continues its adult themes while also taking the show’s most noted controversy and having a little fun with it in-universe. The drama between Batman and Catwoman may stick around for some time, but for Justice League member Vixen, she’s more than ready to prove that heroes can, in fact, “do that.”
