A brand new DC trailer has been released ahead of Super Bowl LVI, showing footage from The FlashAquaman and the Lost KingdomThe Batman, and Black Adam. Warner Bros. had a slow superhero year in 2021, only rolling out James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad which was also simultaneously dropped on HBO Max. In 2022, however, it’s ramping up its blockbuster production with five highly-anticipated flicks on the docket.

DC will open 2022 with the much-anticipated The Batman, which will hit theaters on March 4. Directed by Matt Reeves, it will introduce Robert Pattinson as the next Caped Crusader after Ben Affleck left the franchise. It’s followed by the animated film, DC’s League of Super-Pets, on May 20. From there, three DCEU movies will hit theaters. Dwayne Johnson’s long-delayed Black Adam will see the debut of Justice Society of America, Ezra Miller’s The Flash will also bring back both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s versions of Batman, and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom caps off the year. DC fans have a lot of things to be excited about, and for those who couldn’t wait any longer for these projects, a brand new trailer has been released offering them fresh footage from these blockbusters.

Aside from The Batman, all of these live-action films exist in the DCEU. After Affleck left the franchise, Reeves decided to reboot the character and introduce a younger version of the Caped Crusader. Despite that, there’s still a good chance that Pattinson’s Dark Knight interacts with characters from the main Warner Bros./DC franchise thanks to its burgeoning multiverse. The Flash actually delves deep into this idea, as Keaton’s Batman mentions in the trailer, Barry Allen is choosing a specific timeline to save, which means there are several more in existence within the multiverse. Both Black Adam and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom may not have something to do with this new concept, but their respective stories are interesting on their own.

Looking at the bigger picture, Warner Bros. has a diverse selection of films for its viewers in 2022 withThe FlashAquaman and the Lost KingdomThe Batman, and Black Adam. This is their biggest advantage against Marvel Studios as all three MCU films are sequels. With more variations in their offerings, DC can appeal to a wider audience. Aside from that, the fact that they’re bringing back Keaton as Batman can entice older fans of the Dark Knight who haven’t been keeping tabs back into the DCEU.
