In Future State, Jess Chambers is DC’s new Flash and has garnered a lot of attention as a new fan-favorite member of the Justice League. Jess is the first non-binary, genderfluid member of the league. After becoming aware of a huge conspiracy, they arrived from Earth-11 to warn the Justice League of the incoming crisis. The grand conspiracy which brought Jess into the fold and once threatened Earth wasn’t revealed but only teased. In the aftermath of the events that preceded Future State: Justice League #1, Jess chose to stay behind. They went on to adopt the extinct mantle of the Flash, becoming the Flash of the future.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

DC’s Future State finds Jess Chambers as a grown-up version of Kid Quick, who they first appeared as in DC’s Very Merry MultiverseThey were the only Earth-11 character from Teen Justice to appear in Future State, proving that the publisher took a liking to Jess. Also, it seems that the new Flash has struck a chord with readers. Since the debut of Future State: Justice League, Jess’ character has been beloved and has since sparked an outcry to see more of the groundbreaking new speedster. Although Jess is not officially a part of DC’s main timeline, it’s possible that they might be interested to give Jess a greater role in the DC universe.

DC is continuing many of its Future State storylines into Infinite Frontier. With their choice to expand on these stories, that were established in DC’s dark future, there is precedence for Jess to return. DC’s new Wonder Girl series will venture into Yara Flor’s origins, going back in time and exploring what Future State set up with regards to her origin story. The new series, or whatever Jess could show up in, would explore the aforementioned crisis, which led them to take on the mantle of the Flash, join the Justice League and stick around on Earth-0.

The Flash’s warning remains a mystery, and the bigger picture is unknown to fans. But with Jess’ popularity surging, it appears that DC’s exciting, brand-new genderfluid speedster will return soon. Infinite Frontier promises to relaunch the publisher’s comics, kicking off the year ahead in comic books for DC. Included on the Infinite Frontier cover is a wide range of new and old DC characters. Amongst the many featured heroes are a few characters who were vital parts of Future State. Like the Teen Titans‘ Red X and the Suicide Squad‘s Bolt, a new Australian speedster, who was also once a Teen Titan. It must be noted that Jess Chambers does not appear on the cover. But then again the cover can only fit a relatively finite number of characters, so naturally, there will be many omissions. Also, featured on the Infinite Frontier cover are a few league members who were teased at the end of Future State: Justice League #2. It’s clear that there is a plan for the future Justice League and that we will see them again, in some form. But for now, fans must hold out hope that the publisher has something cooking up.

Whether Future State‘s new Flash returns is still up in the air, but it seems evident that they should return after Future State ends. The journey from Earth-11 and the uncovering of the crisis, which is inferred as resolved, could be the perfect way of incorporating Jess Chambers into DC’s main continuity. If Jess does return post-Future State, fans will be wanting more of what’s been teased, which includes Flash’s relationship with Aquawoman. The two have struck a seemingly romantic and personal chord since Jess’ arrival. They defy the Justice League’s rules and have charming nicknames for each other, and stay around each other’s places. There are many reasons why the Flash should return, but beyond Jess being a groundbreaking character, it’s the teased crisis that further begs for their return after Future State.
