Warning! Spoilers ahead for Deathstroke Inc. #6

Thanks to the latest issue of DC’s new Deathstroke series, the series’ full title has finally been earned (Deathstroke Inc.). Following a major betrayal by Slade Wilson, Deathstroke has taken over a classic supervillain organization which he’s now made his own, leaving his more heroic aspirations behind. That being said, while he may have declared himself to be “King of the Supervillains,” his intentions with Deathstroke Inc. may be nobler than some might assume.

In previous issues of Deathstroke Inc. from Joshua Williamson and Paolo Pantalena, Slade Wilson had been partnered with Dinah Lance’s Black Canary, working for the organization known as T.R.U.S.T to take down various supervillains. However, they recently discovered that T.R.U.S.T was a front for the supervillain group known as the Secret Society and that Slade and Lance were simply taking down villains who weren’t falling in line. Run by Libra and the Calculator, the Secret Society united to keep more volatile supervillains such as the Legion of Doom in check, wishing to maintain the status quo while also being willing to work with superheroes to prevent bigger crises and world-ending threats. Seeing the merit and value of their goals, Slade killed Libra and the Calculator and took over their organization as a new “King of Supervillains” (much to Black Canary’s shock).

Now, Deathstroke Inc. #6 finally sees the rise of Deathstroke Inc., Slade’s new name for the Secret Society. After betraying Black Canary and ordering his cabal of supervillains to kill her, Canary escaped with the intent to call the Justice League to bring Deathstroke down. However, Slade’s new organization already fled the scene by the time the League arrives, having moved to Zandia to begin Wilson’s operations in earnest. Seeking to become greater than Lex Luthor, Ra’s Al Ghul, Vandal Savage, and more leading supervillains, Deathstroke Inc. has finally begun.

Interestingly enough, Slade did try to offer Black Canary a position in his organization wishing for her to be a liaison between heroes and villains. It seems as though Slade is seeking the same goals Libra and the Calculator had, wanting to supersede the notions of good and evil to make sure the world stays safe while those in Deathstroke Inc. can keep their power and maintain a simple status quo. However, Black Canary rejected him all the same, leaving him to become a new supervillain king alone.

Now that there’s actually a Deathstroke Inc. in Deathstroke Inc., it will be interesting to see where Slade focuses his efforts first. However, the issue’s end does tease conflict with his daughter Ravager joined by Respawn who’s mysteriously connected to Slade as well. As such, Deathstroke’s new enterprise might not last for long if his own family will be attempting to bring it down in future issues.
