Wizards of the Coast has revealed the post-launch content for Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, which will run through to the end of 2021. Dark Alliance is an upcoming action RPG set in the Icewind Dale region of the Forgotten Realms.

The story of Dark Alliance follows the Companions of the Hall, who are characters from the Legend of Drizzt novel series. The first book in the series was The Crystal Shard, which involved an incredibly powerful magic artifact, named Crenshibon, appearing in Icewind Dale. The drow Ranger Drizzt Do’Urden managed to bury Crenshinibon beneath an avalanche. The story of Dark Alliance is set after the events of The Crystal Shard, as an army of powerful monsters descends upon Icewind Dale in search of Crenshinibon. Drizzt and his friends must stop this army in its tracks before Crenshinibon falls into the wrong hands once more.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Dark Alliance is due to be released on June 22, and the game will receive new content after it has been released. Wizards of the Coast has released a roadmap of content for Dark Alliance, which will involve three updates throughout 2021. The first one is a free expansion that is due to arrive in the Summer, which will add more levels to the game. This will coincide with another Dungeons & Dragons update that will add local co-op to the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game.

The second free update for Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is due to arrive in the Fall, and it will add more new levels as well as new difficulty rankings. A paid expansion will also be arriving in the Fall. Echoes of the Blood War will add a new playable character, as well as new levels and more content. The Echoes of the Blood War name suggests that demons and devils will be added to the game, as the Blood War is the name of the conflict between the two types of fiends. One of Drizzt’s most powerful enemies in the novels was a Balor named Errtu, who desperately wanted the power of Crenshinibon, so there’s a good chance that he will show up in D&D: Dark Alliance at some point.

The land of Icewind Dale is teeming with monsters, as people who played Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden or the Icewind Dale video games can attest. It looks like Dark Alliance will be leaving the boundaries of Icewind Dale and take a trip to the Outer Planes in the future, where Drizzt and his friends can face some of the strongest enemies in the D&D multiverse. The fans will have to wait before they can tackle Echoes of the Blood War, but at least the game will be adding free new content until then.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on June 22, 2021.
