The Fantasy Followers Pack is a new Valheim mod that adds D&D-like followers to the popular PC game. Valheim hit PC earlier this year in February and quickly rose to the top of the Steam charts. After approximately two months on the market, the title had sold a staggering five million units worldwide. Developer Iron Gate’s post-launch support doesn’t seem as though it will slow down anytime soon either, especially with the Mountains update expected to go live sometime in early 2022.

Valheim drops players in the roles of slain Viking warriors tasked with taming the wilds of the titular Norse realm. Users can explore the survival game however they see fit, either solo or alongside co-op partners. Going it alone can prove rather tricky, though, as some players often find themselves in need of a helping hand when Valheim’s myriad threats up the ante. But what if lone Vikings could rely on NPCs for an added bit of security? Fortunately, someone has already figured out that much and more in an all-new mod.

As reported by PCGamesN, Salpati recently uploaded the Fantasy Followers Pack to Nexus Mods, allowing players to join forces with D&D-style NPC followers. The mod adds six custom followers to the game, each of whom comes equipped with unique skills, weapons, and armor. Players who download Fantasy Followers Pack can access the friendly NPCs by crafting a “summoning totem.” Upon inviting someone new to the party, users should have the ability to command them to follow along or stay put and guard a base. The custom companions themselves include the likes of Erandil, a Ranger with a magic-imbued Runic Bow, a tank-like Knight named Derian, and Tallin the Thief who will prove useful when an agile fighter is needed.

The addition of D&D-esque companions seems a good alternative for those who aren’t interested in Valheim’s co-op offerings but would still like to have someone at their side from time to time. Of course, players will have to determine for themselves whether or not the Fantasy Followers Pack functions as intended.

Valheim has received multiple content updates since it launched back in February. And, as noted above, Iron Gate has yet another notable update on the docket for early next year. The patch in question will focus on the Mountain Biome, which teaser images hint will soon receive cavernous areas to explore.

Valheim is available to play now on PC via Steam.
