Dead by Daylight lets players take control of a roster of classic slasher villains. Among them is the infamous Texan butcher, Leatherface and this guide will explain how to use him successfully.

The subgenre of asymmetrical horror games generally kicked off with Dead by Daylight. With a solid fanbase growing, the servers are still full and there has been a hefty stream of content released on a regular basis since it’s initial 2016 release. There are now 22 survivors and 20 killers to chose from and they each bring something new into the field. Everyone has their own set of perks and abilities that can be purchased and upgraded during pre-rounds at the “Bloodweb”. This game takes place with a myriad of different realms that are each related to the killer that’s lurking about. In this case, Leatherface’s realm is reminiscent of a lone Texas ranch complete with rows of cornstalks to hide in. It can be a dizzying maze to find a way around this map and luckily Leatherface comes with perks that can rectify the situation of players hiding in plain sight.

Like every other slasher villain, Leatherface comes with his own “tools of the trade” that can help amp up his killing spree. He was never known to be the most nimble monster and Dead by Daylight certainly shares that sentiment by the way he feels when players take control of him. However, there’s a method to his madness and players can definitely get a high body count once they work around Leatherface’s limitations. He has power behind some of his attacks and that can set him apart from the other characters. This is especially true when appropriate perks are unlocked and implemented into a loadout. With a little practice, players will be slaying survivors with ease and can build up Leatherface to be a force to be reckoned with.

How To Use Leatherface in Dead by Daylight

There are some tidbits to keep in mind when playing Bubba Sawyer in order to effectively hunt down all the survivors. Even though everyone has their own playstyle, Leatherface is generally best when used defensively. Players should consider using him as a trapper and set up mind games for the survivors so they fall right into Leatherface’s grasp.

  • Use the Chainsaw to Break Pallets

Looping around things and having survivors throw down pallets seem to be the bane for Leatherface’s existence. Playing cat and mouse with just one survivor as they run around in circles is a waste of valuable time. Finding shortcuts to break through certain segments can help, but chances are there will be a pallet in the way. Using his foot to break through a pallet is one way, but the animation can be on the slow side. Instead, rev up the chainsaw and tear through it instead. It slightly quicker and, if timed correctly, it can help approach a fleeing victim from behind pretty quick. Try and fire up the chainsaw a few seconds before approaching a pallet and let Leatherface cut into it. The breaking animation is much faster and can help during a pursuit. The trick is knowing where to start up the chainsaw so Leatherface will walk up to the target and cut through it without missing the hitbox.

  • Let The Survivors Come To Leatherface

It takes a few hits (2-3) with the sledgehammer to put a survivor down, but only 1-hit with the chainsaw. In close quarters, using the hammer is more effective due to the instant swinging animation. The chainsaw needs a brief moment to fire up and the hitbox tends to be surprisingly small. This can cause a survivor to escape, especially when turning a corner. So, knockdown one survivor and try to find another (if they’re close) and put them down too. Keep on eye on the survivor that’s on the meat hook until ‘The Entity” is summoned. Meanwhile, keep looming over the downed victim as they’re crawling away. If someone tries to save the survivor on the meat hook, use the chainsaw and tear them down from behind. Let everyone come to Leatherface, instead of chasing after them. Try and hurry to put them on the meat hook before they’re revived, or sometimes letting downed survivors bleed out is another useful tactic, if necessary.

  • Use Appropriate Perks To Set Traps

It’s important to keep in mind that Leatherface is at his best when playing as a trapper. Setting up traps and allowing players to come to him is ideal. So, with that in mind, there are specific perks that should be utilized that can help Leatherface keep track off all the activity that’s happening around him. Of course, everyone has their preference, the following perks simply help Leatherface keep an eye on his victims. The perk “Remember Me” helps open the gates up to 30 seconds, which helps locate everyone. Use the hammer on Leatherface’s obsession and not the chainsaw when using this perk so it’ll stack up. Plus, a teachable perk that Leatherface should use is “Knockout”. This lets downed survivors not able to be located by their comrades, as long as they’re over 16 meters away. This helps buy time for Leatherface to at least get another knockdown that’s close to his proximity, while survivors that are further away on clueless on what’s going on.

The third perk Leatherface should use is “A Nurse’s Calling”. This reveals survivors who are healing themselves to Leatherface up to 28 meters away. This can be useful, because this also gives away survivors who are trying to revive downed teammates, as well. The last perk players should try is “Deerstalker”. This helps downed survivors’ aura been seen by Leatherface within 24 meters. This can help wrap up a match during the end game since it can be difficult to find survivors crawling in the mud trying to escape. In some cases, they can even make it to the gate without notice. So, always have this perk in the loadout to avoid running around and being blind on where Leatherface’s last victim could be.
