Today, the new Tome and Rift open in Dead by Daylight, giving players access to new challenges, background info, cosmetics and limited-time rewards. The new Tome VIII: Deliverance is live along with the new 5.1.0 update for most consoles, and a new Greek Legends cosmetic collection is available in the in-game store. Tome VIII is accessible from The Archives in-game for players to begin working through, and the Rift automatically becomes available for players to progress through.

The previous Tome, Tome VII: Forsaken, and its Rift launched in May and closed July 21. Tome VII focused on the backstory of Bill Overbeck. Though Bill has been a survivor in-game since 2017 and is often considered one of the staples of the game, he is a licensed Dead by Daylight survivor adapted from Left 4 Dead. The Tome provided background on Bill and shared his story from his initial survival of the zombie apocalypse. The Rift featured multiple charms and outfits that corresponded with Left 4 Dead. For the first time, this Rift gave Bill another outfit choice since there are none in the store, and it was part of the free track of items players could unlock.

As shown in Dead by Daylight‘s new overview trailer, Tome VIII: Deliverance focuses on the past of Jeffrey Hawk, also known as The Clown, and background stories of his obsession with fingers and his complicated relationship with his father. The Tome also features memories from Jake Park and The Observer. This Tome introduces a new yellow glyph challenge that the survivors must interact with during the trial. However, yellow glyphs trigger a skill check; if it’s failed, the glyph teleports to a new spot on the map. As players play through the Tome and complete its challenges, they’ll receive rift fragments that gives them to progress through the Rift to unlock new cosmetics.

In all Rifts, there is a free and a premium track. The free track features cosmetics, both outfits and charms, that can be unlocked by all Dead by Daylight players. In this Rift, the free outfits are for Nea (Dead Surf) and the Hillbilly (3rd Degree Heat). The Premium Track with the Rift Pass has five more outfits and multiple charms that can be unlocked as the player progresses. The five outfits in the Premium Track are for The Clown, The Huntress, Elodie, Ace and Jake. Being able to customize a favorite character is always a plus and is a great way to improve immersion. Often, the cosmetics available in Dead by Daylight‘s Rift are exclusive to it, giving players motivation to continue returning to the game. Sometimes though, players don’t want to or can’t afford to pay for cosmetics, so it is a nice feature that all players don’t have to pay to receive something new. These new cosmetics in combination with the remodeled visuals for some Dead by Daylight survivors make it all the sweeter.

The benefit of the Rift is that there are always new survivors and killers receiving new cosmetics. Whether players want to pay for the Rift Pass and get access to the Premium Track cosmetics and rewards or not, Dead by Daylight is providing background on one of its original killers in Tome VIII, new challenges for players to complete and new cosmetics for players to personalize their favorite character with from the Rift. Between Dead by Daylight giving Bloodpoints for logging in, the Bloodhunt that starts this weekend and the Bloodpoints for completing new Tome challenges, it’s a good time to enter the fog.

Dead by Daylight is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, Android, and Stadia.
