Netflix’s Dead To Me features twists and turns full of murder, lies, and friendship. The friendship between Jen and Judy is what holds the show together, and the two go through a lot with each other.

Judy is a  notoriously bubbly character who clearly thinks the world of Jen and her family and wants Jen’s forgiveness over killing her husband in a hit and run. For all of the great things that she does throughout the show, she also has a tendency to panic and do the wrong thing many, many times. Here are 5 times Judy was the best, and 5 she was the worst.

10 Best: Covering For Jen

In season one, Jen hits a speeding car as a way to get back at the driver for speeding recklessly. This prompts Detective Perez to come and question Jen in the middle of the birthday party they are having for her late husband Ted. Instead of letting her go, Judy takes the blame for the incident even though she did not do it, and goes to the police station in Jen’s place.

9 Worst: Getting Back Together With Steve

There is no question that Steve is a horrible person. He’s sketchy, and he leaves Judy after she has five miscarriages. Judy constantly keeps going back to him, even though she knows that it’s not good for her. When they dismantle their car to get rid of evidence, they sleep together, which leads Judy to think they’re together when really, he has a girlfriend.

8 Best: When She Confesses To Jen

For the entire first season, the fact that Judy hit Jen’s husband with her car is tearing her apart, to the point where she confesses to Jen. It’s a very tense moment in the show, as Judy tries to tell her a lot and she finally tells her everything. While it doesn’t help things at all, it’s one of the best things she’s done, considering she could have just never told her the truth.

7 Worst: Leaving Nick Because Of Steve

Judy finally starts to get over Steve and bonds with a police officer called Nick she meets at the grief retreat. He genuinely cares about her and they become close, until Judy sleeps with Steve and believes she is pregnant.

She leaves him, and ends up being wrong about Steve and wrong about being pregnant. It’s a terrible thing to do, considering Nick ends up looking into Ted’s death and sees that Judy is involved.

6 Best: Giving The Wooden Bird To Jen’s Son

Judy has a really close friendship with Jen’s youngest son Henry, and the two of them bond over the two seasons. In series one, a bird continuously flies through his window and he thinks that it’s his Dad visiting him, although it’s not. As a gift, Judy gives him a wooden bird as a replacement that he can keep with him. It’s a really sweet gift and also ends up being a symbolic item for the show.

5 Worst: Killing Jen’s Husband

This is a no brainer of the worst things that Judy has done. While she didn’t intentionally do it, Judy was the one to hit Jen’s husband, drive away from the scene, and get rid of the evidence. She only befriends Jen at first to try and gain her forgiveness, which is also problematic in itself.

4 Best: Giving All That Money To Jen

At the end of season one, Judy takes all of Steve’s money, and that’s a lot, and uses a bunch of it to help out Jen in season two. She keeps a stash of money that she kept hidden in all of her paintings and reveals it to Jen at the end of season two, leading them to buy out Jen’s mother in law’s company and buy Charlie a car.

3 Worst: Lying About Steve Being Dead

In the first episode of the show, Jen and Judy meet at a grief support group, and bond over the fact that they had both recently lost their husbands.

However, Judy neglects to tell Jen that Steve is in fact alive and well, and she ends up meeting him and also working with him.

2 Best: Being There For Jen

Even though Jen is responsible for the death of Judy’s ex-fiancé Steve, Judy is the kind of person to be there for her friends no matter what. Although they are kind of even considering that she accidentally killed Jen’s husband, the two are always there for each other, and more specifically at the start of the show when they first meet and a beautiful friendship is formed.

1 Worst: Lying About Her Mother Being Dead

Judy is very good at lying about things in her past that she would rather forget. After claiming Steve was dead, she also tells everyone around her that her mother is dead, when she is really in prison. Naturally, that’s a good enough reason to lie, but she continues to find herself in situations where she has to lie in order to relate to people.
