Deadpool 3 confirmed and celebrated the hiring of screenwriters Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin with a fun Bob’s Burgers crossover image. The first two Deadpool films took place in the X-Men universe and starred Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, who’s given regenerative healing abilities after undergoing an experimental cure for cancer. Both films were highly successful for how risky they seemed, as most superhero movies shy away from R-ratings in order to appeal to the widest audience possible. However, the first Deadpool movie was praised for its winking vulgarity and became the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever at the time of release. Deadpool 2 similarly dominated the box office and is often considered superior to the original Deadpool.

The first two movies were primarily written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, two veteran Hollywood scribes who had previously written Zombieland and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The writing duo will not be returning for Deadpool 3, however, and instead are being replaced by another duo Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin. The Molyneux sisters won an Emmy Award in 2017 for their work on Bob’s Burgers, the long-running animated sitcom about a family who own and operate a burger restaurant.

To celebrate the Molyneux sisters coming aboard Deadpool 3, the Deadpool Twitter account posted a crossover image of the Merc with a Mouth and Bob Belcher. The image shows Bob donning an apron and holding one of his burgers with Deadpool’s signature katanas safely secured behind his back. Though the tweet doesn’t mention the Molyneux sisters by name, it does seem to confirm their hiring through the burger and swords emojis. The news of the Molyneux sisters writing the script dropped almost concurrently with news that Deadpool 3 is expected to be rated R just like the first two films. That came as something of a shock to fans considering how Disney, which acquired the X-Men when it bought 20th Century Fox in one of the biggest media deals in modern history, typically likes to keep their content family-friendly. Still, replacing the reliable Reese and Wernick duo with two of TV’s most acclaimed comedy writers indicates Disney is certainly interested in taking Fox’s properties in a new direction.

Considering the first two movies’ extremely meta nature, it wouldn’t be surprising if Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelinone squeezed a few Bob’s Burgers jokes into the third movie. Both movies poked fun at the talent behind the camera, especially the first Deadpool, whose opening credits cheekily praised writers Reese and Wernick and mercilessly mocked director Tim Miller, among many others. A healthy dose of burger puns somewhere in the Deadpool 3 script would certainly be par for the course for Hollywood’s most tongue-in-cheek franchise.
