When Marvel’s Deadpool steals Thanos’ infinity gauntlet, he uses it to do something readers least expect. Rather than wiping out half of the Marvel Universe the way the mad titan Thanos would, Deadpool uses it to spawn the MU at a comedy club where the Merc With A Mouth plans to roast countless superheroes and villains.

Deadpool’s shenanigans are endless and always seem to pack a laugh-out-loud punch. In comic book creators Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan’s Deadpool Vol. 4, the laughs just keep on coming as the ghost of Benjamin Franklin saves Marvel’s thing while being completely nude and Deadpool decides to give up killing for non-violence. But Posehn, Duggan, Scott Koblish, and Val Staples show Deadpool in a different light as he steals the infinity gauntlet from the super-strong Thanos and uses it to spawn the Marvel Universe at a comedy club.

In Posehn, Duggan, Koblish, and Staples’ comic, Deadpool steals the cosmic cube-better known as the Tesseract for the mad titan Thanos and delivers it to him in his “Thanos” helicopter. After handing the Tesseract over to Thanos, Deadpool tricks him into thinking it’s the real Tesseract and that the infinity gauntlet he has on his hand is more than just a plastic toy. When Thanos realizes Deadpool has the real infinity gauntlet, he’s too late. Deadpool jumps out of the helicopter and uses the infinity gauntlet to kill Thanos. After killing Thanos, he uses it to spawn the Marvel Universe at a comedy club where he will roast as many superheroes and villains as possible.

Before it’s Deadpool’s turn, a few superheroes and villains get a chance to roast him including Howard The Duck, Wolverine, Storm, Thor, Nightcrawler, Daredevil, as well as countless others. The odd part about the comedy roast is that when the people roasting Deadpool take the microphone, their comedy is horrendous. At one point, the Hulk takes the stage and begins by boasting about his super-strength, then when no one laughs at his fart jokes he smashes the stage. Most of the superheroes and villains don’t even know what to say. When Daredevil takes the stage, he says, “Deadpool, I hear bad things,” and that’s it. But everything changes when Deadpool takes the mic.

When it’s time for Deadpool’s turn, he begins to spew out jokes like there’s no tomorrow and the crowd goes wild. Deadpool makes comments about Scott Summers, Domino, Thor, as well as M.O.D.O.K. and with each new joke, the crowd of superheroes and villains laugh till they have tears in their eyes. It takes a second for Deadpool to realize the truth, but when he does he can’t help but feel depressed… the only reason everyone’s laughing is because they are forced to after Deadpool snapped his fingers with the infinity gauntlet. After having an epiphany, Deadpool storms out of the comedy club and breaks the fourth wall-telling the reader he will always be depressed knowing his life is just one big joke for whoever decides to pick up and read his comics. Deadpool snaps his fingers and goes back in time to the moment when he tricks Thanos and steals the infinity gauntlet. After giving it back to Thanos, he says, “The power is yours again, and you’ll ruin everything, just like I did.”

Comic book creators Posehn and Duggan are clearly not afraid to take Deadpool to places the character has never been before, granting readers different perspectives. Not only do they show Deadpool in a different light by having him become Zenpool-the non-violent Deadpool, they also make him appear to be not funny at all. But as fans of the comic book character know, Deadpool will always be one of the funniest characters in the MU.
