The PC port of Death Stranding might be getting another update soon, at least according to a leak from Steam Database. Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic open-world action title/delivery simulator saw a major update with last month’s Death Stranding Director’s Cut, a PlayStation 5 remaster that added new features like DualSense haptic feedback and extra side content not found in the original 2019 release.

However, while PlayStation owners could either update their vanilla copies of Death Stranding for a small $10 fee or purchase the Director’s Cut whole cloth, the 505 Games-developed PC port of Death Stranding saw none of these new editions brought over. In fact, the PC version of the game hasn’t received a proper update of any kind since a special crossover event with Cyberpunk 2077 last December. This might change soon though, as Death Stranding Director’s Cut was one of the many PlayStation exclusive titles possibly being ported to PC as mentioned in a massive leak of Nvidia’s GeForce Now servers last month.

According to WCCFtech, a recent stream of changes to Steam Database appears to back up the rumors of Death Stranding’s PC port getting an update soon. A Reddit user by the handle of cloudsheep0 pointed this out on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours yesterday, noting that the development team at Kojima Productions started working on a new update for the Steam port of Death Stranding on September 1, one that is still being worked on as of this writing. This update expands on at least five branches of the game’s base code, with listings for additional downloads lining up with some of the bonus features that came with the PS5 version of Death Stranding Director’s Cut – such as the Digital Art Book pre-order bonus.

When Death Stranding first launched on the PS4 last November (followed by the PC port the following July), players praised the game’s imaginative setting and themes of connectivity and isolation, which grew increasingly resonant once the COVID-19 pandemic led to lockdowns all around the world. Death Stranding was also noted for its memorable soundtrack and strong voice cast, including Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen and The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus as main protagonist Sam Porter Bridges. However, reactions to Death Stranding’s slower, more exploration-focused gameplay and simplistic combat proved to be more divisive, with the new content added in Death Stranding Director’s Cut only highlighting some of these perceived shortcomings.

The Steam port of Death Stranding is certainly due for an update, especially given that the Director’s Cut has been out on PlayStation 5 for nearly a full month now. It isn’t clear when this supposed Death Stranding PC update is coming out or if really does include the new content added to this year’s Death Stranding Director’s Cut, so players should stay posted for new developments as they unfold.
