While adventuring through the world of Death’s Door, players will come across many collectibles such as Shiny Things. There are crystals to collect that can upgrade the crow’s stats. There are also seeds to find and plant that will grow into flowers to heal the crow. Shiny objects can be seen littered throughout the different areas while traversing through the many twists and turns, pathways, and doors.

Shiny objects are this game’s version of hidden treasures. Though they don’t provide much when it comes to gameplay, they do offer value to completionists. They do count towards the overall 100% completion of the game, and there is also an achievement after collecting all of them.

Death’s Door has twenty-five total shiny things that can be picked up throughout the game. In some cases, they can be seen and picked up just by walking and noticing them on the path. In other instances, shiny things require abilities or backtracking similar to some of the shrines located in the game.

Where to Find the Shiny Things in Death’s Door

  • Old Engagement Ring: You can find this on the upper floor rafters after climbing the ladder that appears when vanquishing the urn mini-boss.
  • Old Compass: Within the spider crypt infested with eggs, head through the pathways and proceed through the pathway upstairs to the right, and the compass will be located on the left.
  • Incense: This is located in the Lost Cemetery, on the roof of the crypt next to the gloomy gravedigger in Death’s Door.
  • Undying Blossom: In the Lost Cemetery, there is a cylinder building with a blue roof near a green urn. Inside, a plaque on the wall hints about a similar building in the area. It can be found not far from the southeast of there. Walking up to the twin building causes the isometric camera to shift and reveal an entrance. Inside lies the blossom.
  • Old Photograph: There is an unlit green urn in the hallway in the upper east wing of the Ceramic Manor. Lighting it reveals a secret ladder hidden behind a wall. Climb to the upper rafters and walk to the other side over the hallway to find the photo.
  • Sludge-Filled Urn: In the Estate of the Urn Witch, a secret bush can be passed through that leads to a path with Hookshot anchors and trapdoors that must be traveled to reach a mini-boss that blocks the way to the area that holds the sludge-filled urn.
  • Token of Death: In the cave that connects the Lost Cemetery and Stranded Sailor, there is an anchor near a waterfall that can be used to get over the gap. The token lies on the coffins that are there.
  • Rusty Garden Trowel: At the Estate of the Urn Witch fields, there is a puzzle with the urns on the checkered ground. Look at the back of the Old Photo to solve the order of which urns to break. The Trowel is in the area that opens.
  • Giant Arrowhead: Located behind the arena where the crow fought the King of the Swamp boss in Death’s Door. A ladder comes down after the battle that leads to the upper area to the left, and there is the Arrowhead.
  • Captain’s Log: There is a path to the north right behind the large stairs leading up the mountain not far from the Stranded Sailor. Go through the tiny cave to find the journal lying on the ground.
  • Malformed Seed: At the right side of the Over Grown Ruins, there are Hookshot anchors littered around that lead to the Malformed Seed.
  • Corrupted Antler: Near the entrance of the Mushroom Dungeon and under the long bridge is where this is located. It can be reached by using the bomb ability in Death’s Door on the cracked walls that are in the room to the right.
  • Magical Forest Horn: In the Over Grown ruins north of the village of the forest people is the horn. This will be found during progression as it is needed to soothe the forest.
  • Ancient Crown: This shiny thing can be found in Castle Lockstone. The birthplace of the lords of doors in Death’s Door. At the area outside with four anchors in a diamond shape, there is a trapdoor that has to be smashed into from above. Walk the underground path and go to the right. This will lead to a long trek underground but on the other side is the ancient crown.
  • Grunt’s Old Mask: At the entrance of the Mushroom Dungeon, which is Death’s Door‘s version of a Legend of Zelda water temple, there is a grunt locked away behind bars. After unlocking the gate imprisoning the grunt, they will venture out into the world. Later on, the grunt can be found at Death’s Door‘s Stranded Sailor with discarded mask laid on the ground nearby.
  • Ancient Door Scale Model: This is in the Hall of Doors and can be found in an abandoned piece of the office. The area is reachable by using the flame spell on the unlit urns in the area.
  • Modern Door Scale Model: Located in the Hall of Doors by traversing the floating platforms to the right using the Hookshot on each lamppost and searching the abandoned office space.
  • Rusty Belltower Key: After beating the Lord of Doors boss in Death’s Door, this key can be picked up in the Hall of Doors right in front of the soul machine in the main office.
  • Surveillance Device: This can be picked up in the Hall of Doors behind the cracked walls at the lower left of the main office.
  • Shiny Medallion: Near the Camp of Free Crows, an elevator leads higher up the mountain. Behind the elevator is a small bombable wall that is seemingly out of place. The medallion is in that area.
  • Ink-Covered Teddy Bear: This can be found around the southeast side of the Stranded Sailor. There is another mace-wielding mini-boss guarding this instead of guarding a shrine in Death’s Door that must be beaten before a ladder comes down. Climb the ladder, and the shiny thing will be right at the top.
  • Death Contract: Within Castle Lockstone, a doorway is hidden behind these wooden imitation doors. Going through there and defeating the spiders leads to a large room with shelves that has the contract.
  • Makeshift Soul Key: Found at the Grove of Spirits down to the lower right. Use the Hookshot on the only anchor in the area and continue to find the key.
  • Mysterious Locket: After beating the game and unlocking the belltower, which is a reference to Dark Souls, in the Lost Cemetery, make it night by ringing the bell, then head back to the Old Watchtowers. There is a moon platform that activates at night and reveals a passage in the mountain. The locket is there at the foot of the grave.

The adventure through Death’s Door is a fun ride with interesting bosses and areas. While the main adventure is plenty fun to get through, there is also a collect-a-thon aspect that Metroidvania fans can appreciate. Collecting all shiny things and getting 100% completion nets two achievements and a couple of small bonuses to the main menu, so they are worth picking up.
