Spoiler Warning for the Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba manga!

Muzan’s Infinity Castle, also known as the Dimensional Infinity Fortress, hosts many of the battles in the first half of the final battle arc for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. In April, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train, showcased the Mugen Train arc with Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko assisting Rengoku Kyojuro against two Kizuki demons, Enmu and Akaza.

The Infinity Castle itself has only been seen in the anime in the final episode of season 1. The Infinity Castle arc has yet to take place in the anime, but the battles to protect Nezuko and humankind have played out in the manga, and each one brings forth new moments of power, introspection, and awesome fighting sequences.

7 Mitsuri Kanroji & Obanai Iguro vs. Nakime

Love Hashira, Mitsuri, and Serpent Hashira, Obanai, team up against the Upper-Rank Four demon Nakime. Mitsuri’s motivation for this battle comes from knowing Shinobu has laid down her life for her younger counterparts. She immediately attempts to behead Nakime but is promptly thrown to her death until Obanai saves her. Mitsuri is embarrassed by her arrogance, and Obanai humbles her by saying they should proceed calmly.

Immediately after their resolution to proceed with caution, they are separated by the infinity doors Nakime keeps throwing their way. While Nakime’s attacks are not deadly in the same manner her Kizuki counterparts are, she creates a battle of endurance and patience. Yushiro, Tamayo’s demon companion and Tanjiro’s friend, joins their fight toward the end to assist them to victory.

6 Shinobu Kocho vs. Doma

Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho faces down the Upper-Rank Two Kizuki, Doma. Their relationship dates back to Doma’s battle with Kanae, and he tells Shinobu he regrets not being able to consume her sister back then. Shinobu’s emotions make her reactionary in this battle, and Doma notices this as he reveals that he already knows about her poisoning methods.

This battle is as swift and deadly as Shinobu’s Insect Breathing. Doma goaded her into fighting with a punctured lung, and a broken rib and collarbone. Readers believed she defeated him with a six-stroke “Centipede Hundred-Legged Zigzag,” that landed Doma pinned to the ceiling, but Shinobu reacted too slowly to his quick recovery and she is absorbed by Doma.

5 Kanao Tsuyuri & Inosuke Hashibara vs. Doma

Inosuke Hashibira, voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, shows up after Kanao Tsuyuri begins fighting Upper-Rank Two, Doma. She went into battle with rage after learning her master, Shinobu died. Inosuke comes in with Beast Breathing in full force to protect Kanao. His immediate excitement is a classic draw for fans because he notes that, if he defeats Doma, he can become a Hashira.

This battle is interesting because of Kanao’s speed, and she even surprised Doma with her ability to react to his attacks. Inosuke’s battle techniques remain similar to his past fights as he takes surprises with a shrug of the shoulders. Ultimately, the two fought well, but, as they agree to hold their ground, Doma’s face and crystal clones being to disintegrate because of Shinobu’s poison.

4 Demon Slayers vs. Muzan Kibutsuji

This battle starts and ends with the Demon Slayers and Hashira fighting alongside each other to take down Muzan. When he arrived at the Ubuyashiki estate, Kagaya had planted an explosion to weaken Muzan and allow the others to attempt to take him out. When Gyomei decapitated him and it didn’t work, the others attempted blows before being transported and separated into the Infinity Castle.

Muzan’s unmatched ability to regenerate makes this fight the most frustrating for the demon slayers and Hashira because they can continue to crush and dismember him—but for how long? After all of the battles between individuals throughout the castle, Muzan is dissolving Tamayo’s demon-slaying drug and preparing for another epic battle.

3 Muichiro Tokito, Genya Shinazugawa, Sanemi Shinazugawa, & Gyomei Himejima vs. Kokushibo

Battling the Upper-Rank One Kizuki, Kokushibo, required the strongest demon slayers, including Gyomei Himejima’s Stone Breathing techniques. The battle begins with only Muichiro getting separated from Gyomei and Nakime so that he is facing Kokushibo alone. Pairing this initial faceoff with the realization that Muichiro is Kokushibo’s blood relative, ignites the battle.

This battle rotates in one-on-0ne scenarios, each either with a familial realization of what their lives could have been, or, in Gyomei’s case, the realization that he wanted to save the special Stone Breathing techniques for Muzan, but he had to do what was right. This courage revealed his Demon Slayer Mark. The ultimate move of combining Gyomei’s Serpentinite Bipolar, and Sanemi’s Gale, Sudden Gusts makes them think they had Kokushibo cornered, only to realize his hidden blades had injured them all.

When Kokushibo is confronted with his past, Yoriichi, his rage lashes out in the form of blades emerging from his flesh which take out Muichiro and Genya, though they still fight in their dismembered forms. They barrage Kokushibo until he slices Muichiro to death, and Gyomei and Sanemi continue attacks until Kokushibo no longer regenerates. This battle is one of the longest and most heart-wrenching.

2 Zenitsu Agatsuma vs. Kaigaku

Zenitsu is constantly the hero that is down on himself and worried. His constant state of worry seems to have diminished when he has to battle his former senior, Kaigaku. Kaigaku is now the Upper Rank Six demon and studied under former Thunder Hashira, Jigoro Kuwajima, with Zenitsu before surrendering himself to Kokushibo. Kaigaku doesn’t like being disrespected, but Zenitsu doesn’t back down and taunts Kaigaku, saying that he is only a lowly replacement for his former Upper Ranks.

Another battle between two characters that share a past; Zenitsu holds a grudge against Kaigaku, blaming him for their master’s death. They face off using Thunder Breathing against one another, but Zenitsu’s swordsmanship and speed have grown since their last encounter. Kaigaku’s taunting leads to his downfall as Zenitsu delivers his own creation: Thunder Breathing, Seventh Form: Honoikazuchi no Kami. They both fall to what could be their death, but Zenitsu is rescued.

1 Tanjiro Kamado & Giyu Tomioka vs. Akaza

Tanjiro Kamado is the typical Shonen main character, having experienced multiple tragedies that lead him through his Demon Slayer story arc and developed him into one of the most powerful characters in the manga/show. Tomioka, the Water Hashira that initially didn’t want anything to do with Tanjiro’s training, fights alongside him against Akaza, the same Upper-Rank Three demon that killed beloved Flame Hashira, Rengoku.

The battle is personal for Tanjiro, and it’s apparent in his use of Hinokami Kagura: Fire Wheel, swiftly followed by Fake Rainbow, indicating his significant improvement, noticed by both Tomioka and Akaza. Tomioka starts the battle rather casually for fighting the Upper Rank Two, but he’s also using powerful moves like his personal Eleventh Form: Dead Calm, earning remarks of awe from Akaza.

Tanjiro and Tomioka counter Akaza’s attacks from every angle, making this battle intense and a good balance of back and forth. Tanjiro provokes Akaza with the mention that the strong should help those that are weak, triggering Akaza’s memories of Keizo, his old master. Tomioka’s senses emerge during this battle, awakening his Demon Slayer mark. This fight also unlocks Tanjiro’s “Transparent World,” the ability to attack without killing intent, taking Akaza into a dimension where Tomioka and Tanjiro are able to decapitate him and disintegrate his head while his body fought on.

The two heroes are injured, with Tomioka protecting Tanjiro while he is incapacitated, and, as Akaza tries to recover, he realizes this battle brought him back to why he wanted to be powerful in the first place, and he admits defeat, using his own technique on himself to go peacefully to those he loved in a previous life.
