New DLC is finally set to release up to seven new characters from the latest anime season to Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles. The colorful 3D arena brawler from developer CyberConnect2 was released last year and covers the first few arcs of the popular Demon Slayer series ending with its Mugen Train arc. With incredible animation, battles, and heartbreaking storylines, the Demon Slayer series has seen tremendous success on the page and on screens both small and large.

Last year’s Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles had fans of the franchise and fast-paced 3D arena fighters incredibly excited for the first major game in the series. The title was developed by the same team behind the incredible Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games. This raised fans’ expectations, hoping that the new Demon Slayer game would have over-the-top, emotional recreations of the series’ most impressive moments. While the developer did an outstanding job adapting the story into the game’s campaign, many fans looking forward to the game’s multiplayer were left disappointed. The lack of customization options and a small roster of playable characters had many multiplayer fans lose interest. However, this summer’s new content looks like a good time to give the game another try.

New content is coming soon to Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, which promises to add up to seven new characters through paid DLC. As reported by Gematsu, the latest issue of the Japanese Shonen Jump magazine revealed the upcoming content, which is adding the most exciting characters included in the anime’s latest Entertainment District arc to the Demon Slayer game. The Additional Character Packs are set to start releasing this summer and allow fans to play the formidable demon siblings, Daki and Gyutaro, new versions of Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the Sound Hashira himself, Uzui. Anyone who watched the episodes starring these characters knows that the new additions will undoubtedly make the game more flashy.

The Demon Slayer game launched with a lacking roster of playable characters, some of whom shared similar abilities. This was another cause of disappointment for fans who’d been excited to dive into the multiplayer. However, several updates have added six new playable characters for free since the game’s launch. Players can currently play as twenty-four characters from the Demon Slayer series, but the upcoming DLC will bring that total to more than thirty playable characters for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles.

With the massive success of the anime and Mugen Train film, it was only a matter of time before fans were treated to a faithful video game adaptation. It is currently unknown if the game’s developer plans to release new playable story content covering the Entertainment District arc with DLC. Still, it’s more likely that a full Demon Slayer game sequel won’t arrive until more of the series has been animated. Until then, hopefully fans will be able to amuse themselves with the DLC.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is available on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. Available for Nintendo Switch on June 10th, 2022.
