The next step in the exotic quest surrounding the Dead Man’s Tale exotic scout rifle in Destiny 2 has been revealed in a new trailer. The Dead Man’s Tale debuted in Bungie’s looter-shooter last week and is obtainable once players unlock the Presage quest on The Tangled Shore. Like the Hawkmoon (exotic hand cannon), Dead Man’s Tale contains random rolls alongside its innate perks.

This exotic scout rifle does increased damage with every precision hit, stacking up to five times. Its random rolls also mean the weapon is capable of god rolls in Destiny 2, enabling it to be a useful addition to Guardians’ arsenals, whether battling tough bosses in PvE or other players in PvP. Players who obtained their Dead Man’s Tale god roll last week now have another reason to return to the weapon’s quest activity on The Tangled Shore.

In a new Destiny 2 trailer revealed on the official destinygame YouTube channel, the Dead Man’s Tale exotic scout rifle quest now has a Master difficulty, recommending a power level of 1320 for Guardians who wish to undertake the challenge. The master activity comes with modifiers to make the tougher enemies even more difficult. The trailer also mentions that the weapon’s catalyst increases hip fire accuracy and fire rate, though it does not explicitly state that the catalyst is unlocked by completing the master activity. However, if Bungie’s track record is any indication, the master activity is likely the source of obtaining the Dead Man’s Tale catalyst.

The Dead Man’s Tale is one of the most fun exotic kinetic weapons in Destiny 2. Not only does the increase in damage from precision hits make the scout rifle a monster, but its aesthetic and functionality are akin to the repeaters from the Old West (as fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 may realize). Moreover, the weapon’s low recoil makes it devastatingly accurate, making the catalyst’s additional stat enhancements particularly fruitful for those who prefer hip firing over aiming down the sights.

If Guardians can get a barrel that maximizes range, a magazine that does the same, and a tertiary perk that increases reload speed (such as Outlaw), Dead Man’s Tale becomes a wrathful armament for players to utilize in all activities. Given the prominence of barrier champions in the game’s modified activities, Dead Man’s Tale has the added benefit of being able to utilize anti-barrier rounds when socketing the appropriate mod into players’ gauntlets. Fans would be remiss not to get their hands on this weapon.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
