Players can now get the Darkest Before Pulse Rifle in Destiny 2, a weapon of the Nine that was reissued in the Season of the Lost with new perks. The Darkest Before Pulse Rifle is Rapid-Fire Frame weapon in Destiny 2, allowing the weapon to be reloaded slightly faster when the magazine is empty. This frame type previously included a deeper reserve of ammunition, but this no longer matters since Bungie did away with primary ammunition in Season of the Lost.

The Darkest Before Pulse Rifle is a reissued weapon of the Nine, and like all reissued weapons of the Nine, it can only be obtained in the Destiny 2 Prophecy Dungeon. Specifically, this weapon will only be available for a potential reward after defeating the final boss, Kell Echo. Once it has been earned from the final boss fight, Darkest Before will potentially drop in one of the two secret chests in the Prophecy Dungeon.

Season of the Lost changed the way meta weapons operate in PvE endgame content, specifically reducing the effectiveness of the Anarchy Exotic Grenade Launcher. While finding new weapons to use normally isn’t a big deal, the fight against Kell Echo is problematic because he constantly moves throughout the damage phase. Additionally, the Dark Entropy stacking debuff is still a major part of this fight. Any player who has Dark Entropy x10 will die instantly, and the only way to keep it from increasing is by doing enough damage to Kell Echo. For now, Fusion Rifles, like Destiny 2’s Null Composure, with the Season of the Lost Particle Deconstruction mod, seem to be the best bet for defeating this boss.

How to Get Darkest Before Pulse Rifle in Destiny 2

Particle Deconstruction applies a bonus damage effect against enemies that stacks up to five times. The Merciless Exotic Fusion Rifle is a great choice to pair with this mod because its non-lethal hits charge the weapon faster until the user gets a kill. Merciless will continue to stack that damage until the stack reaches max, and continue to increase its rate of fire against Kell Echo until he’s defeated. With luck, the Darkest Before Pulse Rifle can be earned the first time the player defeats this boss.

The Darkest Before Pulse Rifle has a lot of options for perks, so earning its God Roll will be more time-consuming than usual. It’s a similar grind to the Third Axiom Pulse Rifle search in Vanguard Strikes. Here are the best rolls for Darkest Before in PvE and PvP:

PvE

  • Arrowhead Brake: +Handling, +Recoil Control
  • Ricochet Rounds or Appended Mag: +Range, +Stability, +Ricocheting Rounds, or +Large Magazine Size Increase
  • Subsistence or Overflow: Magazine partially auto-reloads after every kill or Picking up Special and Heavy ammo reloads Darkest Before beyond its normal capacity
  • Rampage or One For All: Damage stacks up to x3 or Shooting three separate targets increases damage for 10 seconds

PvP
