The Wastelander M5 is the newest Lightweight Frame shotgun that players can get in Destiny 2. The Wastelander M5 is one of the many weapons added to Destiny 2 for the 30th Anniversary event, and the gun has many perks available to it that were first released in Season of the Lost, like Perpetual Motion, Ensemble, and Adagio. Being a Lightweight Frame shotgun means that players will have increased mobility when Wastelander M5 is wielded, in addition to the weapon’s superb handling, putting the Wastelander M5 in the same category of shotguns as the Riiswalker in Destiny 2.

Like many of the weapons introduced in Bungie’s 30th-anniversary celebration, the Wastelander M5 references one of the weapons featured in Bungie’s older games. Specifically, Wastelander M5 is a callback to the WSTE M5 shotgun from Marathon 2. In Marathon 2, players could dual-wield the double-barrel WSTE M5. While dual-wielding weapons aren’t part of Destiny 2, the iconic Marathon 2 shotgun can be dual-wield through the All Four Barrells finisher in the Eververse.

The Wastelander M5 is available for all players, regardless of whether they have the 30th Anniversary Pack or not. To get the Wastelander M5, players must complete the new Dares of Eternity matching-making activity and unlock it from Xur’s Treasure Hoard in Eternity. While Xur is Destiny 2‘s Exotic weapons vendor, he also plays a role in the 30th Anniversary Event as one of two prominent vendors in Eternity. The Wastelander M5 is one of six weapons that can be earned from Xur’s Treasure Hoard at random.

Destiny 2: Wasterlander M5 God Roll

The Wastelander M5 is essentially the Legendary version of the Exotic Chaperone Shotgun, both in terms of looks and mechanical play. To compete with Riiswalker for the Kinetic weapon slot, the Wastelander M5 should have perks that promote an increased Range stat. Shotguns, in general, aren’t typically as effective in PvE as they are in PvP, but the Wasterlander M5 still has some great perks available for both types of activities in Destiny 2.

Wastelander M5’s PvE God Roll Perks:

  • Rifled Barrel
  • Assault Mag
  • Perpetual Motion
  • Trench Barrel

Wastelander M5’s PvP God Roll Perks:

  • Full Choke
  • Accurized Rounds
  • Slideshot
  • Opening Shot

Alternatively, the Rifled Barrel can be used in PvP instead of Full Choke. However, because the Wastelander M5 feels like a Legendary Chaperone, Full Choke is a better option as it allows the pellet spread to be tighter when aiming down sights. Rifled Barrel does increase the Range stat, but at the cost of handling speed – a stat where the Wastelander M5 trails behind the Riiswalker in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia.
