Though Bungie’s long-planned Destiny 2 Showcase Event is just hours away from going live, the PlayStation Store has inadvertently leaked details about The Witch Queen expansion and its apparent February 2022 launch. Bungie set the August 24 date for the forthcoming showcase back in June, promising to finally unleash information about The Witch Queen content and the Queen herself, Savathûn.

The Destiny 2 Showcase Event is slated to begin broadcasting in a few short hours at 9:00 AM PT on Bungie’s website. Interestingly, the studio shared one more tease for The Witch Queen expansion yesterday, unveiling the first look at Savathûn in her true form. The 16-second clip that accompanied the news, which Bungie posted on Twitter, also featured the sound of her voice; as of writing, the studio hasn’t announced who lent their talents to the enigmatic role. While this information and more will emerge today, a premature leak already let a few choice details out of the bag.

As spotted by True Trophies (via Eurogamer), the Australian PlayStation Store let loose several snippets of information regarding Destiny 2’s long-awaited Witch Queen DLC. The store listing most notably points to a release date of February 22, 2022, according to True Trophies. A description on the PS Store additionally acknowledges Savathûn’s Throne World as the setting, a place that “plays host to a fragile balance of power. From her palace to the swamp, all that she hides can be found here.” And as the “definitive Destiny campaign,” The Witch Queen should offer plenty for players to explore and uncover, as they’ll finally learn how Savathûn and her “Lucent Hive stole the light.”

The PlayStation Store page further outlines a new weapon type, the Glaive, which will allow Guardians to unleash an energy shield, melee combos, and projectile attacks. Apparently, Destiny faithful can also look forward to the advent of a weapon crafting system that permits the building of “custom weaponry with unique mod, shader, and stat combinations.” True Trophies‘ report notes the PlayStation Store listing boasts information regarding pre-order bonuses, as well. Those who pre-purchase The Witch Queen should gain access to an exclusive emblem, Enigma Exotic Emote, and the Throne World Exotic Ghost Shell. Meanwhile, pre-ordering the Deluxe Edition will additionally unlock “Seasons 16-19, two Year-5 Dungeons, an Exotic SMG, catalyst, ornament, and an Exotic Sparrow.”

Bungie originally planned to deploy the expansion in question this year; however, pandemic-induced challenges forced the studio to alter course. Should the PlayStation Store leak prove accurate, fans don’t have to wait too much longer for content release.

Savathûn has lingered in the background of the Destiny universe for years, first receiving mention in 2015’s The Taken King expansion. She’s come up time and again in the years since then, with the in-universe lore painting quite the picture. Fortunately, players will see The Witch Queen in all her glory soon enough.

Destiny 2 is available across Google Stadia, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
