The latest expansion for Destiny 2, the highly anticipated The Witch Queen, will release at the end of February following a delay in 2021. The new DLC will be available for play on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One consoles, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, and Windows PC. The release of the new expansion will arrive alongside Destiny 2‘s Season 16: Season of the Chosen, starting off the next year of content ahead of Destiny 2: Lightfall.

Developer Bungie has conjured up a lot for the successful long-running online shooter. Based on the information shown for the upcoming expansion Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, it appears the DLC will include more content than Beyond Light. Since the release of Destiny in 2014, there has been at least one major expansion with each passing year, and 2021 went by without as The Witch Queen was delayed. There are four different editions of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen available for preorder, each featuring different amounts of content at various prices with the Standard Edition at $60 USD featuring the main DLC.

There are new locations and new enemies awaiting in the latest Destiny 2 expansion, which has a release date of February 22, 2022. Destiny 2: Witch Queen introduces Savathûn’s Throne World. The Throne World will feature three zones along with the new raid, Sunken Pyramid, and including the throne of Savathûn, The Witch Queen herself. The Witch Queen’s Hive Guardians will be the main enemies of the new expansion who can interestingly wield the Light, just as the Guardians can. The Hive Guardians additionally are able to use Super moves and resurrect similar to players. The new update also allows players to customize builds and rework their subclasses with the addition of the Void Subclass. There will be a new weapon archetype added, the Glaive, which is a part melee, part ranged weapon, which can generate a shield. The new weapon archetype is coming with the new Destiny 2 weapon crafting system which allows players to create their own weapons. Further still, The Witch Queen adds a legendary difficulty campaign mode, buffing enemies and restricting respawns for players looking for an additional challenge.

Destiny 2: Witch Queen Spotlights Savathûn’s World

Destiny has always revolved around a story of light and darkness as an underlying theme and Bungie confirmed last year that The Witch Queen expansion is finally ready to conclude that saga. Bungie stated, “The Witch Queen will light the fire on a strongly interconnected narrative across Lightfall and beyond, unlike anything we’ve ever attempted before, with characters, arcs, heroes, and villains that persist over multiple future releases”, which adds more excitement for the awaited expansion. To understand more about the story of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, players must be understanding of the lore behind Hive gods. Hive gods have their own ‘cyst universes’ within the Ascendant Realm, and these cyst universes are otherwise known as Throne Worlds. In Throne Worlds, Hive gods have absolute power. Entering the realm of Savathûn’s light-wielding guardians may grant additional closure towards the theme of Light and Darkness.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen releases Tuesday, February 22, with servers shutting down for maintenance late on Monday, February 21. This has given players the weekend to prepare for the exciting new expansion. There are an additional two trailers on Destiny 2‘s official YouTube channel for players to watch, and Easter eggs within Destiny 2: Witch Queen‘s trailers are chocked full of lore references from the game. Looking beyond the most recent expansion’s release, players can expect a content-rich year with new updates being released at least every three months in the future.
