Showtime Original, Dexter, made viewers fall in love with a sociopathic serial killer, thanks to the show’s unique storyline, coupled with thrilling twists and brilliant performances from the entire cast. Starring Michael. C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, the series’ fifth season was Clyde Phillips’ last before he parted ways with the show he created.

With Rita Morgan murdered (by Trinity) and his son, Harrison, there to witness the deed, Dexter will have to deal with emotions he has never felt in his entire life. Of course, he has a very different way of dealing with things and this list will rank every episode from the fifth outing of the show, according to IMDb.

12 “First Blood” (8.1)

The fifth episode of season 5 sees a severe drop in pace from the first couple of episodes. Lumen Pierce is hell-bent on finding out the people who put her in this miserable position, which is something Dexter doesn’t want as he likes to do his hunting without any disturbance.

Also, daddy Dexter is still worried about Harrison having a darker side, while Debra continues the chase towards the Fuentes brothers.

11 “Hello Bandit” (8.3)

In the second episode of season 5, Dexter deals with the perks of being a full-time dad, which means now he has less time for his dark passenger. After debriefing the FBI about Rita’s murder, LaGuerta tells Dexter to take a break. Angel finds a disturbing truth, while the fight between Astor and Dexter continues to get out of hand.

Meanwhile, a severed head crime scene puts Quinn, Debra, and Angel on notice of drug killings.

Elsewhere, Dexter concentrates on his next prey, namely Boyd Fowler, while Quinn starts to question the similarities between Dexter and Kyle Butler.

9 “Beauty And The Beast” (8.5)

In the fourth episode of season 5, Dexter finds himself in a unique situation, as he now has to save the life of an innocent woman who witnessed Boyd Fowler’s murder. It was interesting to see Dexter convert himself into a normal human being from the monster he usually is.

This, again, tells the viewers that Dexter isn’t completely psychopathic, instead, he has a heart. Moreover, Debra and the team still don’t have anything on the drug murders.

8 “Circle Us” (8.5)

The seventh episode of season 5 sees Lumen move into Dexter and Rita’s house, as our favorite serial killer targets Lumen’s rapists. Meanwhile, Debra and Quinn continue their romantic entanglement, and while Quinn wants their relationship to come out in the open, Debra isn’t having any of it.

Also, a horrible crime scene comes up, right in the middle of the city, when barrels full of dead bodies fly out into the open.

7 “Everything Is Illuminated” (8.8)

In the sixth episode of season 5, Dexter agrees to move back to his old apartment, while pursuing another kill, namely, Lance Robinson. But during his sacred ritual, he is disturbed by a call from Lumen, who has returned to Miami and she thinks that she might have shot one of her rapists.

Soon, Dexter finds himself in a precarious situation with a double murder on his hands and he needs to find a way out.

6 “My Bad” (8.9)

The first episode of season 5 picks up exactly where last season’s finale left us. A distraught Dexter gets out of the house as police enter the crime scene, with everyone in the yard chatting about different things.

Meanwhile, Astor and Cody, who are with their grandparents, don’t know about their mother’s death and Dexter must find a way to tell them. It’s a solid episode of character development, with most of it featuring a grieving Dexter.

5 “Take It!” (8.9)

In the eighth episode of season 5, LaGuerta is absolutely fuming at the ‘Fuentes brothers operation’ debacle and she wants someone to take the fall.

Dexter attends one of Jordan Chase’s motivational seminars while preying on his next victim, only this time, he has Lumen to keep him company. Debra, for some reason, isn’t feeling anything regretful towards killing one of the Fuentes brothers.

4 “Hop A Freighter” (8.9)

In the penultimate episode of season 5, Debra points out the fact that Chase seems to be the only link between the recent disappearances, while Dexter and Lumen plan another kill, but their plans need to take a back seat after Dexter identifies that someone is looking into them.

Elsewhere, during an interview, Debra and Quinn get to know the real name of Jordan Chase, that is, Eugene Greer, which is a startling revelation.

3 “The Big One” (8.9)

In the season 5 finale, Stan Liddy’s murder (committed by Dexter) is investigated and Quinn comes out to be the prime suspect, with Dexter on hand to do the forensics. But, he has bigger things to worry about, as Chasee has kidnapped Lumen and plans to kill her.

Debra gets a solid tip to the whereabouts of the suspected man in the Barrel Girls killings and she is more than surprised to find something unforeseeable.

2 “Teenage Wasteland” (9.0)

Daddy Dexter is back to take care of his young, or more precisely, teenage daughter Astor who shows up out of nowhere in the ninth episode of season 5. With her, she brings some regular problems that teenage kids suffer from, something which Dexter isn’t accustomed to dealing with.

Also, he has Jordan Chase, one of Lumen’s rapists, to worry about, who is set to receive the good old stab in the heart on Dexter’s table.

1 “In The Beginning” (9.0)

The tenth episode of season 5 is another frantic edition of Dexter and Lumen’s adventures of killing together. Lumen might be all set to claim the life of one of her rapists, namely Alex Tilden, but Dexter needs to do his due diligence first.

Debra is also studying the Barrel Girls case and she finds an important detail about the 13th girl. Also, a woman named Emily Burch seems to know a whole lot about Jordan.
