After the first five incredible seasons that saw Dexter become one of the best TV series of all time, the show parted ways with its original creator Clyde Phillips. That’s the time the series began failing to live up to the fans’ expectations, with the storylines not making sense.

With Lumen Pierce (played by Julia Stiles) out of the picture, Dexter Morgan (played by Michael. C. Hall) returns to life as usual in Miami, but with the hovering presence of his colleagues, maybe, finding out the truth about him. Without further ado, let’s rank every episode from the sixth outing of the critically acclaimed series, according to IMDb.

12 “Nebraska” (7.9)

In the seventh episode of season 6, Dexter disposes of Nick’s body before his brother Brian Moser shows up in place of Harry and tells him to admire his dark passenger.

Dexter asks Debra for some time off and she agrees to it, meaning Dexter is all set to visit Jonah, the Trinity Killer’s son, who might have murdered his sister and mother. The entire episode is based around Dexter completely giving-in to his urge to kill.

11 “Sin Of Omission” (7.9)

In the eighth episode of season 6, Debra isn’t quite happy with Dexter for taking advantage of her and not showing up for work for 5 days.

After catching up on the Doomsday Killings Case, Dexter thinks Travis might be having second thoughts but the same cannot be said about Professor James, who now wants to murder Travis’ sister. Elsewhere, Brother Sam’s memorial brings out a lot of emotions for Dexter.

Moreover, Brother Sam is brought in for questioning, who is an ex-con and has, seemingly, changed, which Dexter does not believe, of course. Also, Debra will have to make two life-changing decisions, one personal, the other professional.

9 “The Angel Of Death” (8.1)

The fifth episode of season 6 sees Debra go to therapy, which is mandatory for anyone who has been involved in a shootout. These sessions might prove to be good for character development.

Dexter wonders that there might be light in him to counter the darkness, while Angel and Quinn give a visit to Professor James’ colleagues, asking them about the possible mention of the Doomsday Killings.

8 “Ricochet Rabbit” (8.1)

In the tenth episode of season 6, Dexter is trapped inside the church, with Professor Gellar’s corpse as Harry tells him that Travis can’t be saved.

With the police closing in on him, Dexter plants some evidence, so they think Travis wasn’t working alone and that Professor Gellar was with him. Elsewhere, the Doomsday Killer is in search of new disciples, who can help him overcome the last stage.

7 “Smokey And The Bandit” (8.2)

In the third episode of season 6, Debra goes to work as the Lieutenant and she is not sure what she needs to wear. She could ask Dexter, but her brother doesn’t know a damn thing about clothing.

He knows a thing or two about killing, though, and he targets a long-forgotten serial killer, who goes by the name of “The Tooth Fairy.” Elsewhere, Travis plans the next step of his Doomsday Killings, meaning more work for Lieutenant Debra.

6 “Talk To The Hand” (8.4)

The penultimate episode of season 6 flatters to deceive, as it threatens to explode but, seemingly, holds back its cards. Everyone’s life at the police station is in danger as one of Travis’s disciples is all set to poison everyone, starting with Debra.

Also, Angel is tied at Travis’s house and his own life is in harm’s way. Dexter will have to not only save his sister but also catch the Doomsday Killer before any more harm is done.

5 “A Horse Of A Different Color” (8.5)

In the fourth episode of season 6, Dexter talked to Brother Sam about faith and episode by episode, it feels Dexter is growing respect for Brother Sam.

Another very odd crime scene emerged, thanks to Travis and Professor James’ Doomsday Killings and it seems, those two are maturing with their works. Also, Debra gives her first official press conference, in her typical style, which might not be liked by the public.

4 “Just Let Go” (8.5)

In the sixth episode of season 6, Brother Sam is rushed to the ICU after being shot in cold blood. Dexter, at the same time, is following Travis but as soon as he learns about the shooting, he comes running to the hospital.

This is another time where the viewers get to see the human side of our favorite monster and now, Dexter is out for revenge. Meanwhile, Debra feels the pressures of being a Lieutenant, as Quinn reveals he slept with a witness.

3 “Get Gellar” (8.5)

In the ninth episode of season 6, Dexter tries to help Travis, as they seek to find the whereabouts of Professor James Gellar but Dexter is in for the surprise of his life.

Debra continues to discover new things about herself in the therapy sessions and it seems they are helping her, so she wonders if she should go to therapy twice a week. Moreover, Quinn seems to have lost himself, while Angel isn’t quite happy with his partner’s foolishness.

2 “Those Kinds Of Things” (8.6)

The first episode of season 6 sees our favorite serial killer return to what he does best. He is living a happy life it seems. Killing people who fit the code like the good old days but he is a father now, which means he needs to perform fatherly duties.

He wonders what he should teach Harrison so that he can believe in something. At the station, Masuka has become a teacher, while LaGuerta is promoted to captain.

1 “This Is The Way The World Ends” (9.2)

The season 6 finale is the only episode in this season, where the story takes an entirely new turn. An unforeseen twist takes place towards the end and this is something the series is known for.

Despite that, there are a number of tense moments in this episode, one of them being Travis threatening to kill Harrison if Dexter doesn’t abide by the rules. It’s an above par finish to an underwhelming season.
