Starring Michael. C. Hall as the sociopathic serial killer Dexter Morgan, Dexter is one of the best thriller drama series of all time, even though the last couple of seasons didn’t live up to fans’ expectations.

After a very disappointing sixth season, the creators of the show had a difficult task in hand, that is to reignite the character the viewers loved to see. With Debra witnessing Dexter killing the Doomsday Killer, it was interesting to see how she would react after knowing the complete truth about her stepbrother, whom she loves (not in a brotherly way). Without further ado, let’s rank every episode from the seventh outing of the series, according to IMDb.

12 “Do The Wrong Thing” (8.3)

In the sixth episode of season 7, Dexter discovers Hannah’s lies and he starts stalking her for a possible kill. But it wouldn’t be easy as she is quite smart, so in order to find her alone, Dexter gets closer to her.

Isaak, now in prison, warns the Columbians against killing him because the Koshka Brotherhood is stronger than them. Also, Sal Price wants to update his book after Wayne’s suicide. LaGuerta discusses the Bay Harbor Butcher case with Debra.

11 “Chemistry” (8.5)

In the seventh episode of season 7, Hannah and Dexter grow closer little by little, but they seem to be such a strange couple. Both of them are quite similar when it comes to the serial killers thing but something about them seems a bit off.

Price and Debra continue their investigation into the poisoning bit, while LaGuerta gets an answer from Debra that she wasn’t looking for. Also, Isaak is hot on his heels, stalking Dexter.

10 “The Dark…Whatever” (8.5)

The tenth episode of season 7 showed so much promise but it flattered to deceive. LaGuerta is getting closer to learning Dexter’s past but she might need the help of an ex-convict to bring down the real Bay Harbor Butcher.

Meanwhile, the Phantom Arsonist is still on the loose, burning people, while Dexter is quite nervous to meet Hannah’s father, Clint. This episode puts certain pieces of the puzzle in place for the last two episodes.

9 “Swim Deep” (8.6)

The fifth episode of season 7 sees Dexter investigate the pool of blood left behind by someone on his boat. He knows he never leaves a mess like that behind him, so he must figure out who was killed there and why.

Meanwhile, Isaak is planning to kill Dexter but he doesn’t know who he is dealing with here. Also, Dexter meets Hannah McKay, one of Wayne Randall’s accomplices, and he finds that she is full of secrets.

8 “Helter Skelter” (8.6)

In the ninth episode of season 7, the two foes might have to work together, with the Koshka Brotherhood deciding to kill Isaak. With nowhere else to turn, Isaak asks Dexter, the monster himself, for help.

Before that, Dexter takes Hannah out on his boat, as they grow closer and closer, even though their relationship comes across as a bit weird. LaGuerta is still trying everything she can to reopen the Bay Harbor Butcher case.

7 “Buck The System” (8.7)

In the third episode of season 7, Dexter, finding it difficult to find his new victim with Debra surveilling him 24/7, tries a different approach. It’s better for him to realize that Debra doesn’t think like him.

She thinks that not even a criminal deserves to be cut into pieces like that. Elsewhere, the Koshka Brotherhood wants revenge on the one who killed one of their own, while LaGuerta wants Angel to convince everyone to reopen the Bay Harbor Butcher case.

6 “Sunshine And Frosty Swirl” (8.8)

In the second episode of season 7, Dexter tells Debra that he is, indeed, a serial killer who only kills certain kinds of people and that he’s been doing it since he was 20.

Hearing this, Debra doesn’t know what to do, so she concentrates on her work, instead, trying to find out exactly who killed Mike Anderson. LaGuerta gets back the result from the blood slide at Travis’s murder scene, as she continues to investigate the potential return of the Bay Harbor Butcher.

5 “Run” (8.9)

In the fourth episode of season 7, Dexter’s secret is taking a toll on Debra. As Dexter goes to investigate Speltzer’s Mausoleum, Debra dreams about being in Rita’s position before she blames her brother for Rita’s death.

Isaak Sirko continues to look into Dexter, as he wants revenge against whoever it was who killed Victor. Quinn gets closer to one of the workers at the Koshka Brotherhood’s club.

4 “Argentina” (8.9)

The eighth episode of season 7 is a welcome change of pace, with multiple storylines in place. Quinn’s past as a dirty cop doesn’t seem to leave him alone, with the Koshka Brotherhood trying everything to turn him against his department.

Isaak, now out of jail, is coming for Dexter and this confrontation is one of the most anticipated moments of the season. Also, Dexter has to do his fatherly duties, while protecting a personal secret from Debra.

3 “Do You See What I See?” (9.0)

In the penultimate episode of season 7, Dexter has to make a tough decision which involves him choosing between Hannah and his sister’s safety. Hannah never stood a chance, did she?

Meanwhile, one of Dexter’s mother’s killers is granted parole, and it is not difficult to figure out what the serial killer thinks about that. Also, Matthews talks to Dexter about LaGuerta’s absurd theory, which means Dexter has another problem to take care of.

2 “Surprise, Motherf**ker” (9.3)

In the season 7 finale, the show manages to wrap up almost every storyline and that’s why this is one of the most frantic episodes of the entire series. LaGuerta is going all out for Dexter, which means Debra must find a way to save her brother who she just cannot live without.

Also, Hannah has a plan up her sleeve, which means Dexter might have to look out for his sister as everyone knows that Hannah is capable of anything.

1 “Are You….?” (9.5)

The first episode of season 7 is arguably the best episode of the series after the season 4 finale. The horror on Debra’s face as she sees her shy foster brother Dexter take Travis’s life with the precision and care of a serial killer is something to behold.

All his life, Dexter has lied to the people close to him, but this time, the person closest to him knows the truth. The entire 45 minutes or so is a tense ride to the brother-sister emotional park.
