The ending of a show is always a big deal, but it’s especially so for Dexter: New Blood. After the original Dexter ended with one of the most maligned series finales ever, the resurrected limited series revival marks a rare second-chance opportunity to erase the marred reputation for a show that was otherwise considered to be one of the best ever to grace the small screen.

Needless to say, there’s a lot riding on how the story will end – again – and fans have been passionately sharing theories and ideas on what could potentially happen on Reddit.

Dexter Will Kill Harrison

Redditor u/Nobodyletloose thinks not only that Harrison inherited his father’s Dark Passenger, but that Harrison is the one responsible for the missing teenage girls. They believe that Harrison, knowing what and who his father was all along, decided to start preying on these women as a strategy to get closer to him.

But as the plot thickens, since Harrison didn’t have Dexter around to teach him to control his urges and direct them at those who were “deserving,” “Dexter will find out Harrison meets Harry’s code and will be conflicted on what to do with his offspring monster,” they speculate.

Dexter Will Blame Himself

Another Redditor, u/Ok-Cryptographer2794, builds on the common theory that Harrison has a Dark Passenger. But rather than believing that Dexter is conflicted about killing his own son because he meets Harry’s Code, Dexter feels guilty for not being there for him and considers killing himself as a result of that guilt. “He blames himself for what [Harrison] turned out [to be],” they explain.

If Harrison is a serial killer, after all, it would make sense that Dexter might blame himself. He would be the bad person, not his innocent son who never had a father figure to guide him. Since one thing fans would change about the final season of Dexter is Dexter dying, it’s plausible.

The Masked Figure Is A Mystery Killer

One Redditor, u/kyrensolo, believes that the mysterious masked figure with a sniper gun in the trailer could be a killer who ends up hunting down Dexter, “just like S1 had the Ice Truck Killer and Season 8 had the Brain Surgeon.”

In the same thread, Redditor partsthatjiggle actually thinks the person could be Angel, having “trained with an elite squad” and “out to seek revenge for Maria LaGuerta.” That one is unlikely, but the trailer alludes to the fact that Dexter can’t “run from his past” right when the visual of the mysterious person is seen, which might suggest it’s someone from the original show.

Angela Is Involved In The Missing Women

A really interesting theory by u/Neat_Foundation2599 that could hold some weight is that Angela has something to do with the missing women. While she might not be a serial killer, she might be involved with the person who is. They back up the theory by suggesting that when Angela met the young woman in the bar, “she directs them to the shelter as a scout for vulnerable women.”

The Redditor points out that immediately after meeting this young woman, Angela sat down with Dexter and almost instantly got a notification from her doorbell camera supposedly showing that her teenage daughter was having too many friends over, which suspiciously prompted her to leave. They also suggest that when she told Dexter she hoped someone would find the missing woman and he responded with “my money is on you,” it could have been foreshadowing. If this were true, it could go down as one of the greatest betrayals in Dexter history.

Harrison Will Kill Dexter

In this early access discussion thread by u/skinkbaa, Redditor kb1117 predicts that Dexter will meet his karma in the finale as Harrison, who inherited the Dark Passenger, will poison and kill him right when the pair are seemingly starting to get along and work together.

Harrison will then continue his life as though nothing happened. “Nobody ever finds out what Dexter did in Miami, it’s regarded as a tragedy in Iron Lake, and that’s it,” they write. This would also allow for a story to continue with Harrison as the new Dexter should there be another season.

Kurt Caldwell Is The Serial Killer

In a comment on the Official Episode Discussion for “Storm of F**k” by u/skinkbaa, Redditor raymansnoodles posits that the eyes shown peeping at the woman sleeping in the hotel (or shelter?) bed looks like they belong to Kurt Caldwell. “It might be a stretch,” they note, “but am I the only one who thought the observer’s eyebrows and eyes looked like Clancy Brown’s?” (the actor who plays the character).

Kurt, introduced in the second episode, is the father of Matt Caldwell, Dexter’s first new victim, and the unofficial mayor of the town. It would be an interesting twist if he turned out to be a serial killer, coming face-to-face with Dexter eventually in a similar way to Trinity Killer in season 4 of the original. While Dexter is the smartest person on Dexter, he has met people in the past who gave him a run for his money, and Kurt could fall into that category.

Hannah’s Fate Is Untrue

More discussions continue in the thread by u/skinbaa pertaining to the second episode when Harrison reveals to Dexter that Hannah died several years prior due to cancer. But several Redditors in the thread question whether this is sincerely Hannah’s fate. Redditor KrabMittens asks, “is she even truly dead?”

Others also suggest that it’s possible Harrison killed Hannah, whether it was a mercy killing to help suppress his urges (at Hannah’s prompting) since she was dying anyway, in anger after learning that his father was alive, or something else. Redditor KittyMuffins reminds fans that Harrison talked about getting over a “drug issue” from a “few years ago” which would coincide with the time he said Hannah had died.

Dexter Sacrifices Himself To Save Harrison

In a thread by u/Jontyphth0n, they discuss the possibility of, rather than Dexter killing Harrison, Harrison killing Dexter, or Dexter killing himself out of guilt for not being there for Harrison like Harry was for him. What if “Dexter somehow has to sacrifice himself to save Harrison?”

They predict this because the title of the final episode is called “Sins of the Father,” combined with showrunner Clyde Phillip’s comments in interviews that the finale will “blow up the Internet.” It’s very likely the father being referred to in the episode title is Dexter, but how it will all play out remains to be seen.

Trinity Will Be Harrison’s Dark Passenger

It has been confirmed that John Lithgow will be returning in some capacity to the new revival series, but seeing as the character is definitively dead, it would have to be in the form of a flashback, vision, or some other non-human entity.

While some think he will be a vision Dexter sees, similarly to how Debra is his new Harry, or even that he will be the visual non-masked manifestation of Dexter’s Dark Passenger, Redditor u/IReadTheReddits suggests that maybe Trinity will show up as Harrison’s Dark Passenger. They say it would make sense that the person Harrison sees as his personal devil, if he was to have a Dark Passenger as well, would be the evil person who killed his mother in one of the most shocking deaths on Dexter. Even though he was just a baby, Trinity was the last person Harrison saw with his mother when she was alive.

Angela Will Go To Miami

The Redditor u/Befunouille thinks there will be a deeper connection between this show and the original, with Angela starting to put the pieces together about James Lindsay, the old case of the Bay Harbor Butcher in Miami, and a man named Dexter Morgan who died.

They even go so far as to guess that Angela will suspect a connection and travel all the way to Miami to learn more. “That’s where we’ll see a former member of the police, maybe Quinn or Batista,” they say. It’s a stretch but anything is possible.
