The return of Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan has certainly been a roaring success so far, but Dexter: New Blood has also introduced a slew of interesting and nuanced characters to the serial killer’s life in Iron Lake, and many of them are almost as good as the original players in Miami.

With Jim/Dexter having a whole new life in the snowy town of Iron Lake, he is surrounded by new neighbors, new love interests, and most importantly new killers to deal with. While fans were delighted to see cameos and appearances by Debra Morgan and Angel Batista, these new faces have got them very excited too.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Kurt Caldwell

The unofficial custodian of Iron Lake began as a sweet and benevolent man, doing his best for the town and its people. Outwardly, he was like a sweet old grandfather, and that façade is what makes him so dangerous.

Dexter has had its fair share of best and worst characters, and Kurt’s dual nature falls firmly in the good category. He is easily one of the most dangerous killers that Dexter has had to deal with, and his MO is chilling, as is his backstory, if true. He is a great foe for the world’s favorite serial killer to face-off against.

Angela Bishop

One of the biggest reveals of Dexter: New Blood was Jim/Dexter’s new girlfriend, Angela. However, Angela is not clueless to what happens around her, mostly because she’s the Chief of Police of Iron Lake. She has a sharp mind and better instincts at sniffing out that things aren’t exactly right, and she easily uncovered Jim’s actual identity pretty quickly.

Her dedication to directing attention and resources towards the Seneca Nation and uplifting her people is inspiring, and she genuinely cares about the missing and transient women, which nobody else does.

Harrison Morgan

Fans wanted to see several things in the Dexter revival, and the most demanded person was Harrison, which came true. While Harrison existed in the original series, he was barely a toddler and had no real personality. Seeing him grow up and come into his own has been enlightening for audiences, and quite emotional too.

Dexter’s son has been through a lot of trauma since he was a baby, and the abandonment and foster care did him no favors. Fans can’t wait to see if he has acted on his Dark Passenger the way Dexter has.

Audrey Bishop

Angela’s adopted daughter Audrey is no ordinary school-going teenager. She may hang out with the popular kids like Zach, Becka and Scott, but she has a mind of her own and doesn’t blindly follow the herd.

At parties, she refrains from taking drugs and doing silly, immature things that her peers do, and her presence of mind is quite commendable for her age. She saved Harrison form an overdose, took photos of evidence from her mom’s station, and stands up for the environment and indigenous rights against people like Kurt.

Matt Caldwell

Matt Caldwell was most definitely a bad egg, inherited from his devious father no doubt, but it was his awful self that kickstarted the events of New Blood, and got Dexter out of his killing exile. He didn’t have a care for human life, much less animal life, and his callousness towards the white deer made Dexter lose his carefully maintained control.

Dexter had changed in the initial episodes of New Blood, but somebody like Matt who had likely killed people earlier couldn’t be allowed to live. His character also depicted the impact that generational trauma has on younger members of a family.

Sergeant Logan

Just like many others in Miami Metro PD, Sergeant Logan is a good guy with little to no instincts in his line of work. After going through tragedy himself, he wants to help everyone and do good for the town, which led him to becoming the wrestling coach in school, but he is overall quite blind to the flaws of the Caldwells.

Logan was also gullible and fell for Molly’s obvious desire to get information from him and misconstrued it as affection. However, his sweet demeanor and defense of Kurt and Matt makes audiences wonder if he’s hiding something.

Molly Park

The founder and host of “Merry, F*cking, Kill” is easily one of the most intriguing characters on the show. Molly enjoyed digging deep into the gory mysteries of serial killers past, and she had honed her hunches about creepy people in general, even picking up on Jim/Dexter’s weird vibe which others never caught on to (except for Doakes).

She was fearless in her pursuit for leads and clues, which almost got her killed by Kurt, but overall, her conviction and gutsiness is commendable.

Teddy Reed

Not a lot is known about Teddy, but he’s a lovable part of Iron Lake PD anyway. A newbie at his job, the quirky guy tries his best to be helpful, but also makes his lack of experience clear with the way he acts at scenes and at the station.

However, he’s eager to please and very reliable when duty calls, which was what he was when Angela found Iris in the Clarke Caves. Teddy’s observations, like Jim/Dexter missing a tarp, are sharp but he doesn’t quite connect the dots.

Esther

Esther is the friendly and warm police dispatcher for the town, and her genuine care and kindness towards Jim/Dexter and Angela makes her very lovable. She likes her gossip, but also hopes for the couple to work out well, and is visibly concerned about Harrison when he was hurt.

As a person with a disability (played by amputee actress Katy Sullivan), she also provides much-needed diversity in the show, and represents them in a field of work they wouldn’t always be associated with.
