Disney has released the official trailer for the upcoming reboot of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, showcasing the fresh, animated visuals ripped straight from the original books. The Wimpy Kid franchise initially launched in 2010, with a live-action adaptation of the popular children’s book. Four sequels followed the last of which, The Long Haul, was a semi-reboot that failed to capture fans of the franchise in 2017. In 2020, Disney announced an all-new, rebooted animated movie that will start the series from scratch, adapting Jeff Kinney’s original book, following Greg Heffley as he navigates middle school life and its hardships.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The first trailer for the new Diary Of A Wimpy Kid was released to YouTube by Walt Disney Studios and can be seen below. The trailer gives audiences a glimpse of the animation, which is based entirely on the famous illustrative style of Kinney’s books.  From the meeting of Greg and Rowley to the famous “cheese touch” sequence, moments, characters, and scenarios from the school-based book are translated directly from page to screen.

Swinton O. Scott III directed the new animated film and has several episodes of cartoons in his repertoire, including Futurama and Family Guy. Initially developed by 20th Century Fox studios, the animated movie was acquired by Disney when they bought the company and confirmed to continue development. Fans of the books and live-action films can expect to see their beloved characters Greg, Rowley, and more all over again as Diary Of A Wimpy Kid comes exclusively to Disney+ on December 3rd.
