Fans were thrilled too see Cheer season 2 return with more incredible performances, intense drama on the mat, and several new cast members. The second season of the show saw Navarro balancing their newly found fame with growing competition from their rivals, Trinity Valley, at the NCA Championship in 2021. Cheer season 2 is split into two parts, as the first four episodes were filmed in early 2020 before the championship was cancelled due to COVID. When the filming picked up again in the next semester, fan favorites such as Gabi Butler and La’Darius Marshall had already left Navarro. Season 2 also showed more of the rivalry between the two elite junior colleges, Navarro and TVCC, as they both have several championships under their belt. It gave way to newcomers such as TVCC’s head coach, Vontae Johnson as well as breakout star Jada Wooten, who helped lead the team to victory in the Cheer season 2 finale.

How Much They Got Paid

Many fans thought that Netflix was paying Navarro and TVCC millions after they saw the success of Cheer season 1. The coaches and students do not receive any money directly from Netflix, though many of them have lucrative endorsements and sponsorships because of the show. Navarro is only getting paid around $30,000 by Netflix, and the same is likely true for TVCC.

Cassadee’s Reality TV Roots

For fans who thought that Cassadee Dunlap looked familiar on Cheer season 2, it is because she had her start on reality TV at just 9 years old. She competed in beauty pageants and was featured on Toddlers & Tiaras, when she won the title of “Ultimate Grand Supreme” at a pageant in her native Arkansas. Cassadee revealed that she had also been cheering from a very young age, and was the star of another cheering reality show called Cheer Perfection.

Why Andy Cosferent Left Navarro

Andy Cosferent was the assistant coach to Monica Aldama for Cheer in season 1 and half of season 2 before he disappeared without explanation. Many fans thought he would take over for Monica while she was competing in Dancing with the Stars, but he left Navarro altogether. Andy then revealed that he created and is producing the Cheer Live tour, where many fan favorites from the show will perform their gravity defying stunts.

Navarro vs TVCC

Many fans were shocked to hear that Navarro and TVCC were not just top competitors in their division at the NCA Championship, but they are actually the only two colleges competing in that category. They are both in the advanced section, and all of the other junior colleges are in intermediate so they do not compete on that level. While the bitter rivalry between Navarro and TVCC was a major plot point in Cheer season 2, the cast has set the record straight that many of them are friends with each other when they are not on the mat. Several Navarro and TVCC cheerleaders have actually competed alongside each other on the club level All-Stars team.
