Conjurer, one of the many pre-made classes in Divinity: Original Sin II, is a summoning-based class. Being one of only a couple of classes based in only one skill line, the Conjurer can be built in several different ways. Set-up to be more of a supporting class, here is the best way to build a Conjurer.

The Summoning skill line has many useful abilities that allow the player to have several extra summoned companions. Conjurers have abilities from summoning elemental creatures to charming enemies to fight along the player’s side. While this skill line is incredibly useful, alone it will not be enough.

How to Build a Conjurer in Divinity Original Sin 2

The conjurer already has an ability that would do well with several different playstyles but seems to be built to play a more supportive role in combat. One of the first things a Conjurer will want to decide on is if they want to specialize in a particular element. There are several summoning abilities that a character will only have access to if they also have levels in a particular elemental skill line. Any of these could make a great secondary skill line for the Conjurer.

Specializing in Aerotheurgy will give access to Electric Infusion, Cursed Electric Infusion in the Summoning skill line. Aerotheurgy uses the power of air and storms to build up the player. This skill line works well for a stealthy supporting role. To the best effect with Summoning, abilities like Favorable Winds, Blinding Radiance, Erratic Wisp, Blessed Smoke Cloud, Teleportation, Nether Swap, Apportation, and Chain Lightning.

Aerotheurge

  • Favorable Winds – Gives the player character and allies within a radius an extra one and a half meters of movement per action point.
  • Blinding Radiance – Enemies within a radius of the player character take 90% air damage and are blinded for one round.
  • Erratic Wisp – Sends a targeted character in a random direction and gives them 40% air resistance for two rounds.
  • Blessed Smoke Cloud – Create a cloud of smoke that makes all allies within a radius of the player character invisible.
  • Teleportation – Teleport a targeted character across the map, dealing air damage.
  • Nether Swap – Swap two targeted characters on the map.
  • Apportation – Teleport an object off the map into the player character’s inventory.
  • Chain Lightning – Deal 150% air damage between up to eight enemies within an eight-meter radius.

Specializing in Geomancy will give the Conjurer access to the Poison Infusion and Acid Infusion Summoning abilities. Geomancy uses the powers of earth and poison to deal damage and stay on the battlefield. Taking Geomancy will likely make the Conjurer more of a melee fighter and tank. The best Geomancer abilities that would work best with the Conjurer are Contamination, Fortify, Oily Carapace, Turn to Oil, Mend Metal, Reactive Armor, Worm Tremor, Summon Artillery Plant, Siphon Poison, and Living Wall.

  • Contamination – Deals 55% Poison everyone in a radius from the player character. Can also turn puddles of blood or water into acid and clouds into poison.
  • Fortify – Build physical armor onto targeted character out of the earth. Makes the target immune to being teleported and removes Poisoned, Bleeding, Burning, Acid, and Decaying status effects.
  • Oily Carapace – Consumes an oily surface and turns it into armor for the player character. Also removes the Slowed status effect.
  • Turn to Oil – Turns water and blood puddles into oil spills. Removes Stunned and Shocked effect statuses from characters standing in the puddle.
  • Mend Metal – Builds the physical armor of allies within a radius of the player character.
  • Reactive Armor – Sends a wave of metal shards out from the player character, physically damaging everyone in a radius from them based on how much armor the player possessed.
  • Worm Tremor – Sends worms out of the ground in an area to attach to every character without magical armor. Deals 50% earth damage to characters initially and 30% poison damage for the two subsequent rounds where they are entangled.
  • Summon Artillery Plant – Summons a plant that can shoot acid and cursed poison clouds for five rounds.
  • Siphon Poison – Removes puddles of poison and adds poison damage to the player character’s weapons and weapon abilities.
  • Living Wall – Grow vines out of the ground to block a path and emit poisonous clouds.

Specializing as a Hydrosophist will give the Conjurer the Water Infusion and Ice Infusion Summoner abilities. The Hydrosophist uses the power of water and ice to deal damage and heal allies. This specialization would make the Conjurer a full support and healing character. The best Hydrosophist abilities to take for the Conjurer are Rain, Restoration, Cryotherapy, Healing Tears, Cryogenic Stasis, Mass Cleanse Wounds, Vampiric Hunger Aura, Deep Freeze, and Ice Breaker.

Hydrosophist

  • Rain – Make it rain in a certain area of the map, dousing fires and setting out puddles.
  • Restoration – Restores Vitality to a targeted character for two rounds and removes Poisoned and Bleeding statuses from the target.
  • Cryotherapy – Consumes a frozen surface in a radius of the player character to convert it into magic armor. Also removes Burning and Necrofire statuses from the player character.
  • Healing Tears – Send three healing tears around the player character to heal allies that walk within that radius for the next three rounds.
  • Cryogenic Stasis – Target an ally to incapacitate them, heal them over time, and make them immune to damage for one round. Also removes Shackles of Pain.
  • Mass Cleanse Wounds – Heal the player character and allies within a radius, creating puddles of water beneath them. Also removes Necrofire, Burning, Diseased, Decaying Touch, Poisoned, Bleeding, Suffocation, and Acid status effects.
  • Vampiric Hunger Aura – Gives 50% Life Steal to the player character and allies within a radius for two rounds.
  • Deep Freeze – Creates a cone of frost that instantly kills enemies with 10% or less Vitality left or to enemies with more Vitality it deals water damage and becomes frozen.
  • Ice Breaker – Sets off a chain reaction that will cause areas of ice to explode dealing water damage to nearby characters and giving them the Chilled status effect.

Finally, specializing in Pyrokinetics will give the Conjurer the Fire Infusion and Necrofire Infusion Summoning abilities. The Pyrokinetic uses fire and necrofire to damage their enemies. Taking this skill line will make the Conjurer more of an active fighter who is ranged. The best Pyrokinetic abilities to use for the Conjurer are Ignition, Peace of Mind, Bleed Fire, Corpse Explosion, Sabotage, Throw Explosive Trap, Sparkswing, Summon Fire Slug, and Meteor Shower.

Pyrokinetic

  • Ignition – Sets enemies and surfaces on fire within a radius of the player character.
  • Peace of Mind – Target gains the Clear-Minded status effect which increases Strength, Finesse, Intelligence, and Wits for three rounds. It also removes the Blinded, Terrified, Charmed, Taunted, Sleeping, Enraged, and Mad status effects.
  • Bleed Fire – Causes enemies to bleed fire for three rounds when hit, setting surfaces near them on fire.
  • Corpse Explosion – This causes a targeted corpse to explode and deal physical damage to characters around it.
  • Sabotage – Targets an enemy character to detonate any of their grenades or explosive arrows on them.
  • Throw Explosive Traps – Gives the player character four traps to throw out into the field that takes one round to set up and will explode when characters walk within a radius of them.
  • Sparkswing – This causes the player character to gain a spark projectile that will go off for the next four attacks in three rounds.
  • Summon Fire Slug – Summons a Fire Slug for five rounds.
  • Meteor Shower – Causes 25 meteors to crash down in a three-meter area.

Any of these lines would make a great secondary skill line option depending on the playstyle that is wanted. Depending on the race of the character may also change the decision. If the Conjurer wants a third skill line, choosing another element may be the best option. Other Conjurer combinations could be Hydrosophist and Necromancy for a support role, Geomancy and Warfare for a tanking role, Pyrokinetic and Huntsman for a ranged role, or Aerotheurge and Scoundrel for a stealthy role.
