Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness will be dealing with the fallout of Earth’s heroes meddling with their respective timelines and the Multiverse in general. Throughout many of Marvel’s live-action and animated projects, the vigilantes have saved the day by switching up what actually happened. This can have dangerous consequences as Stephen Strange will soon learn.

Every time a character got involved with the balance of reality it may have directly weakened the barriers between worlds. With Doctor Strange investigating these occurrences and the potential for the TVA or Illuminati to try to bring order to the chaos, many of these plot points might become relevant again in the upcoming release.

X-Men In X-Men: Days Of Future Past (2014)

The plot of X-Men: Days Of Future Past involves the team of the future trying to avoid a series of events that will lead to a post-apocalyptic tragedy. With the whole of the timeline in the balance, Charles Xavier sends Logan back into his past body to try and stop the Sentinel uprising.

It’s a tense mission with huge stakes, but the consequences are even greater than Professor X could have contemplated. With a Variant of Xavier present in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, it’s possible that the removal of that future timeline had major repercussions for the rest of the Multiverse.

Deadpool In Deadpool 2 (2018)

Cable came from another version of the future, aiming to kill the man that murdered his family before he could ever grow up to be the supervillain he’s supposed to become. While Summers may have averted that future timeline without killing Firefist, that didn’t stop Deadpool from wrecking the timeline beyond fixing.

As the credits roll on Deadpool 2, it’s revealed in an iconic series of scenes that he has used the time-traveling device to hop around realities and alter his own history, saving Vanessa, shooting Ryan Reynolds before he could ever sign on to Green Lantern, and even disposing of his X-Men Origins: Wolverine Variant. Needless to say, the TVA will probably be searching for Wade Wilson.

The Avengers In Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Thanos had to be stopped after wiping out half the universe. To do so the Avengers would need the Infinity Stones, scattered throughout history. Thus, Tony Stark invented a method of time travel, which saw them hop throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, collecting those all-powerful objects.

Avengers: Endgame really introduced the idea that the timeline was vitally important to the future of these heroes. The damage that those choices had on the larger Multiverse was seemingly halted because it was all part of the larger plan. However, Loki’s escape and the impact of that has led to a domino series of events

Scarlet Witch In WandaVision (2020)

Wanda’s powers are only growing stronger, but in her grief, she tapped into a set of abilities she wasn’t even aware she possessed. Reality is a dangerous thing to mess with, but as the Scarlet Witch has emerged the boundaries between existence have begun to wear thin.

Not only did Wanda shift the reality around her, but she potentially did manage to channel a Variant of Pietro into the MCU from a different universe. It’s clear that Strange knows of the events in WandaVision, which is why the character has been pulled into Multiverse Of Madness.

David Haller In Legion (2017-2019)

David Haller is one of the most unpredictable Mutants in existence. The Shadow King has fed on his mind for years, but the Omega-level threat has learned from the darkness within. His tragic timeline needed re-writing and thus the finale of Legion saw Haller completely reboot his universe.

A shift in the timeline is a problematic thing as it can have a larger impact on the Multiverse. Haller wants to play out his life very differently, which the TVA might have an issue with. A cameo from Legion himself could be possible in Doctor Strange 2, considering his ability to shape time, alongside his ally Switch.

Sylvie In Loki (2021)

Of all the projects in the MCU so far, the Disney+ series Loki opened up the possibilities of the Multiverse the most. The Time Variance Authority was introduced, alongside the idea that there were Variants of every character scattered across millions of worlds.

Although Loki was already in breach of his timeline thanks to the events of Avengers: Endgame, it would be the Variant known as Sylvie who was to deal the most damage. Killing He Who Remains and allowing the Multiverse to open up further will surely impact the narrative of Multiverse Of Madness.

Doctor Strange In Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Doctor Strange has made his own mistakes in regards to the Multiverse. When trying to erase the memory of Peter Parker from the world in Spider-Man: No Way Home he messes up the spell, allowing those connected to the web-head to arrive from the Multiverse.

He may have put a lid on that particular catastrophe but it seems the trouble is only just beginning. Knowing now that there is magic that can tear apart reality itself, there’s no telling how Strange will try to combat that oncoming disaster and where in the Multiverse he could end up.

Venom In Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

Venom: Let There Be Carnage boasted an after-credits sequence that had fans intrigued as to where the character could go next. With the Symbiote tapping into the hive mind for the first time, the Multiverse of other Symbiotes was opened up for him to communicate with.

This is what brought Eddie Brock and Venom into the MCU universe during No Way Home (and now the duo has a deeper connection to the Multiverse in general). This may not impact Doctor Strange 2, but the Symbiotes have now changed the main MCU timeline forever, arriving in an ominous fashion.

The Watcher In What If…? (2021)

It’s been made very clear to both comics and TV show fans that The Watchers can’t interfere with anything happening within the Multiverse. Yet, that hasn’t stopped Uatu, who ends up assembling a team to try and combat Ultron and his nefarious legions.

Although an argument could be made that The Watcher didn’t get directly involved in What If…?, without his guidance, the Guardians Of The Multiverse would have never been formed. There may be consequences for Uatu from the other Watchers, or he may break tradition again and aid the Master of the Mystic Arts.

S.H.I.E.L.D. In Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013-2020)

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. began displaying time travel narratives quite early into the show. As it began to progress it was clear that whether the team was thrust into the far future with the Kree or thrown into the early days of the organization, they couldn’t stop the timeline from being changed.

It’s unclear how many realities the team has contributed to creating or destroying, not to mention the formation of the Framework. They have become experts in what it’s like to travel through timelines, but their actions might have been deemed destructive by the Illuminati.
