Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has wrapped additional photography. The latest film in the MCU will pick up following the events of WandaVision, Loki, and Spider-Man: No Way Home and will see Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) team up with Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olson), Wong (Benedict Wong), and newcomer America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) to traverse the multiverse. The film is currently set to open on the coveted first weekend of May that has been a great success for Marvel films.

In November 2021, it was reported that Doctor Strange 2 was undergoing significant reshoots. Benedict Cumberbatch revealed later that month that part of the reason for the reshoots was logistical, because there was some footage that could not be shot because of COVID-19. Rumored reports suggested the reshoots were to add additional characters and cameos into the film, possibly featuring returns of other pre-MCU iterations of Marvel characters.

Cumberbatch recently sat down with Deadline, to celebrate his recent SAG Award nomination for Best Actor in The Power of the Dog and his upcoming collaboration with Wes Anderson on Netflix adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. Cumberbatch also talked a little bit about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Deadline reveals that reshoots for the film have wrapped, saying it officially wrapped additional photography on Saturday, January 8, 2022.

Initial reports suggested Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wrapped reshoots in December 2021, however, it appears the production ran a bit longer. This is possibly because of scheduling with other actors who are joining the film in secret roles. Sam Raimi is directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and given the appearance of Tobey Maguire as The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, many are hoping to see Maguire return and reunite with Sam Raimi with an appearance in the Doctor Strange sequel.

Audiences got to see their first look at Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as an after-credits sequence for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which Marvel Studios then released online as the trailer. Given the film opens in five months, the next trailer is likely to hit around March, most likely when The Batman hits theaters. The second trailer could feature some of the reshoot footage, yet if some of the additional footage is incorporating other characters and cameos, there is a chance Marvel Studios could keep those roles out of the marketing and maintain the secret as they attempted to do with Spider-Man: No Way Home, to mixed results.
